My experience on US Kirin Tor is that even with the Horde outnumbering Alliance 4:1, there's plenty of Alliance folks on (in the evenings, US EST, at least). My impression is that the Alliance holds their own in Wintergrasp, though I haven't done it for a while, so I could be mistaken.
Seems as if the issue isn't one of how many people are on a server, but of how many people play regularly on a server.
May 18th 2010 12:44PM Line up three level 80 mages: fire, frost, and arcane. Let them take turns killing Selflothius with each and every mage spell that can be used to cause a death. Travel to interesting and exotic locations and record said deaths against breathtaking vistas. Then stich them all together into a YouTube video, set to the tune of "Fade to Black".

Among other useful things, it shades your cast bar based on latency, so that it's obvious when you can start casting your next spell.
