Jan 14th 2012 1:15PM Feral Druids are another good counter to frost mages. Shapeshifting will remove the slows applied by frostbolt, save trinket for when they ice block stun you, stampeding roar and dash both break roots, our inturupt has a bit of range on it which means you can usually catch them in it AND it helps as a gap closer, save kittystep for when they use blink. Instant cyclone can be used as a gap closer as well. You won't have full uptime on them, but usually enough to keep full bleeds rolling on them. They are rarely able to free cast and your bleeds do more damage than ice lance spam. Just gotta be careful to match your cooldowns with theirs, and kill them before a second ice block stun is available.
As a side note, I've been having way more trouble with fire mages than frost after their buff. Any tips on how a feral can knock their butts out would be great... They are just so damn mobile!!!
Nov 8th 2011 3:22PM While I agree on some level, especially for the smaller scale BGs, you have to keep in mind that adding any sort of complication to that process will significantly increase queue times. I would simply be happy with role specific queues that made sure you had between 10-30% healers for a bg. I think adding a resil/ilvl bracketing system would be too much complication. If it didn't drastically increase queue times I'd be all for it though. Or if higher brackets awarded conquest instead of valor.
Nov 8th 2011 12:26PM My appologies if I was misunderstood, bit the main reason I ask for this is because of the increasing number of pve systems that you can use pvp gear to cheat, not because of some silly notion of one being better than the other. I play and enjoy both. If there was a way to queue up for rated battlegrounds based upon ilvl, you better believe there would be outrage at the raid geared people joining just for kicks, and I would be asking for a similar change to that system.
Nov 8th 2011 11:53AM Se here's a thought. Why does pve and pvp have to have the same ilvl per each tier? Why can't pvp gear have a lower ilvl reflecting the fact it is sub optimal for pve? If you made resil "free" in the item budget, ilvl would be a much more accurate representation of your Pve capabilities if you had to use Pvp gear to fill a hole or two.
Now that there are game systems that depend upon this ilvl number, and especially now that you could have a 25 person raid finder group chock full of people cheating the system, I feel it's more important that your ilvl be a more accurate representation of your pve abilities. I realize that the system will never be perfect, but I think some steps could be made to make the system better, and I think it's more important now that you're going to be wasting the time and effort of 24 other people, instead of just the 4 poor souls you group with for a dungeon pug.
Oct 31st 2011 2:37AM being able to sneak up to the Lumber Mill in AB while stealthed, as feral, then vortex everyone to the edge, and then typhoon everyone off sounds like a freakin blast... cant wait.
Aug 23rd 2011 6:50PM I understood gc's post to mean that this was supposed to make hit/exp/haste more interesting stats for tanks in general because active mitigation skills would all need to hit the target to activate, not just death strike. I'll have to re-read it to be sure. If that's the case, that actually would make a better situation for dk's compared to other tanks. If blizz follows through with making rage an actual resource for bear/wars (as opposed to the too much rage in raids, not enough in heroics) then that makes rage a valuable resource that is wasted on a miss. That is a problem dk's don't have because they get their runes back on a miss, if I'm not mistaken. Also, the abilities will likely have cooldowns to prevent pooling rage and spamming your mitigation key. The cooldown being wasted on a miss is also a problem dk's don't have. I don't think it's all doom and gloom in dk land just yet, guys. :)
Aug 16th 2011 1:26PM Thanks to everyone for the helpful comments! Makes me sad that there's no fights that the hybrid spec is useful for this tier. My favorite thing about raiding feral is being able to go back and forth between tanking and dpsing on the fly. Maybe I can hope for a tank death and an epic bear shift to save the day. :) jk.
Aug 15th 2011 2:39PM I posted this on the readycheck column about the same encounter, but got no responses, so I'll try here.
Do you think it would be beneficial to run the cat/bear hybrid spec? You would dps during scorpion, and tank the cats during cat. While you would be doing little damage to staghelm during cat phase, having another tank to soak up cats may allow your raid to push that phase another couple stacks. Also, you could really mop up some cats totally solo during a berserk cooldown towards the end so they are all dead going into scorpion.
Just curious what you, and anyone else had to say about it. Has anyone tried it yet?
Aug 13th 2011 6:29PM He means both. If you have the ability have one gear set where your survivability is emphasized, and one where hit/exp is emphasized. If you have overzealous dps, stuff isn't really going to last very long to begin with, so survival shouldn't be an issue. What WILL be an issue is trying to hold threat against them.
Other way around. If you have patient or undergeared dps, they will allow you to generate threat even if you miss the first attack, so you can afford to lose hit/exp because stuff will be living longer, and defensive stats are better if the mobs are beating on you more.
Aug 12th 2011 11:01PM We will be starting this guy this week and I'm curious about something. Would a feral tank/dps hybrid be useful for tanking the cat adds? My thinking is even if you are dpsing the boss only during scorpion phase, your raid might be able to push cat phase much later. In addition, bears can put out some mean damage with three targets
In range of a berserk cooldown to kill the adds.
