5 great holiday gifts for World of Warcraft players {WoW}

Dec 17th 2011 1:24PM You could also go the 'surprise party' route though it'd take three or four friends. Talk them into a Sarth10-3d run around Christmas (it can be 5-manned, probably 4-manned with firelands/ET/DS gear) and then master-looter them the black drake.

It's free! And one of the best lookin' drakes out there, I think. Just my two copper anyway.

Dev Watercooler: Faction favoritism {WoW}

Nov 25th 2011 3:24PM I realize this.

What I also expect is that all that Alliance will be allowed to do in response is beat our chests and wail in the Horde's general direction. Will they allow the Alliance to crush Stonard or take back Southshore? Will we be given the chance to make a decisive and long-lasting retaliation for all the constant abuse we've suffered?

I have a sneaking suspicion the answer will be no.

Dev Watercooler: Faction favoritism {WoW}

Nov 25th 2011 3:11PM Promises promises promises.

I understand his argument, and indeed it's true, but the Alliance has been forcefully written into a position of inferiority for expac after expac, to the point where the players are a laughingstock because they try to stand up for their "inferior" faction. This impression is shored up by laughable and offensive displays such as the infamous video at BlizzCon, to the point where the overall impression is 'Horde is for Winners, Alliance is for Pussies' and until they LET us do something worthwhile, and for more than one instance to shut us up, that's the way it's going to be.

THAT'S why the Alliance is mad about being relegated to a Horde punching bag. It's not just a matter of story, it's about being shoehorned into an image that we, as players, can do nothing about.

Gold Capped: How to deal with AH stalkers {WoW}

Nov 4th 2011 12:30AM It's impossible to 'undercut below cost' really with glyphs since the cost of posting is just 1 silver and I don't think you even CAN vendor them. There's one of those 1-copper undercutters on my server that literally does nothing but live in Dalaran and run back and forth from the mailbox to the AH, undercutting people's glyphs by 1c. It's impossible to even sell the damn things anymore. I swear, if I wouldn't get banned for hacking, I'd jump at the chance to follow them around and boot them offline repeatedly or something. Or annoy them as much as they annoy me.

I'd pity them for having no life, but I'm 90% sure it's automated activity. Does using an auction bot count as a 'slider'? Can I report them for abuse?

The Queue: I am not yet pumped ... {WoW}

Oct 11th 2011 2:25PM You can't fly in either faction's BC 'starter' areas. This is probably for the same reason you used to not be able to fly in Vanilla zones; the 'skybox' isn't implemented and large areas of the island don't actually exist in complete fashion (the area of the dead scar that runs through Silvermoon itself springs to mind).

Since Blizzard didn't go back and fix/alter any of the BC areas with Cata, only Vanilla zones, Eversong and Azuremyst/Bloodmyst are still under Vanilla no-fly rules. They'll probably get to them eventually, but I think the vanilla revamp had their hands full during Cata development time.

Arcane Brilliance: Optimizing your mage's gear through Rawr {WoW}

Oct 8th 2011 6:25PM Just as a note.

If you're running on a mac with Chrome (which I was) expect this thing to melt your computer's brain. It forces you to use ALL of your processing capacity for some reason, and my box temp went from its rest state of about 105 degrees up to, I kid you not, almost 190 degrees with Rawr running in my browser.

I am inclined to glare accusingly at MicroSlop for this... but who knows. All I know is, it's clunky, at least to use it through the browser.

All the World's a Stage: Plot points for tauren roleplayers {WoW}

Aug 8th 2011 2:50PM I'm less concerned over whether or not the tauren have it in for night elves as I am about why the -hell- they keep hanging out with orcs (who cut down every tree they can get their greasy green mitts on), goblins (who have about as much respect for the Earthmother as they would a whore that gives them discounts on saturday night), and the Forsaken who are (currently, as the official party line) diametrically opposed to EVERYTHING the tauren stand for.

I'm not saying there aren't a few honorable orcs out there, or a Forsaken or two that isn't having any of Sylvie's LichCrazy (there's one I can think of in EPL offhand), but seriously?

Eitrigg for Warchief, dammit, he'd straighten out this disaster.

Know Your Lore: The shu'halo {WoW}

Jul 6th 2011 3:51PM What gets me though, is while I can see the tauren being all right with the orcs and trolls, who at least have a similar sort of approach... how can they -possibly- justify allying with the Forsaken, who despoil, blight, and corrupt all the land they touch, and their Queen gleefully scooping up everything Arthas didn't leave nailed down and throwing it around willy-nilly? And speaking of 'living in balance'... the blood elves are so far out of balance they're dangling upside down off the end of the beam. They literally suck the life force out of things to feed their own bloated needs, and twist the land around them into an artificial garden that, while it lives, is about as natural as a twinkie.

And the goblins are just crude, shortsighted asshats. I think the only reason the tauren put up with them is that if they get too out of hand, they can squash them under a hoof.

But seriously. As time passes, the Horde has become more and more out of balance, more destructive...there's even an Ashenvale quest where you're sent by an orc to go corrupt the heart of the forest... ostensibly to 'show those nelf hippies their place' but the real aftermath of that action would be to turn the ancestral elven homeland into a scorched, dry wasteland like Durotar. Is this acting in balance? I think not. If this kind of thing keeps going on... will the tauren place their oath to an orc who's already left the Horde above their spiritual duties to the Earthmother?

Breakfast Topic: Why did you start playing WoW? {WoW}

Jul 3rd 2011 2:10PM I got into WoW largely because my tabletop RPG group at the time would always spend 2-3 hours before game babbling at each other in code about their MCs and their BWLs and PVPs and what have you. I got tired of not being able to understand what the hell they were blathering about, (and they managed to thwart my usual 'I don't want to play an mmo' excuse by pointing out that Bliz actually did support my OS)... so I went out and bought good ol' Vanilla WoW. (This is back when there wasn't anything else.)

I figured, if I hated it, I'd only be out fifteen bucks.

.... Five years later... I think they've all quit, and yet here I still am. Four 85s and working on a fifth.

Scattered Shots: Patch 3.3.3 hunter changes {WoW}

Mar 25th 2010 4:01PM Abomination's Might will also overwrite the shiny new Ferocious Inspiration buff. Which... I admit somewhat peeves me since I'd really LIKE to have that steady shot buff, but OH NO. Stupid death knights.
