Apr 17th 2010 3:15PM I still don't understand how any of this would affect the given advice. It doesn't strike me as a instance of "orientation blindness" that the Mamas didn't touch specifically on the couple's relationship -- just that in this situation, the nature of the relationship doesn't seem to have significant ramifications as far as proper conduct goes. If the article has erred by lack of detail, what do you think is missing? It's true that in any given community, a homosexual couple might face bigotry if discovered, but it might not be necessary to point this out in the article itself, especially given how little we know about the guild's dynamics.
Yeah, it's naive to simply ignore sexual, religious, or racial identities, but I really doubt that's what's happening here; it just wasn't touched on in great detail because it doesn't really affect the advice the Mamas had to give. It's roughly the same reason we haven't touched on the couple's ethnicities or religious affiliations.
Apr 16th 2010 1:35AM P.S. Spouting strained metaphors regarding mindless conformity and how you're above it all won't actually win you cool points.
Honestly, now. Lemme know how the (understandable) desire for a free pony is going to somehow equate to us all sailing off a cliff and braining ourselves.
Apr 15th 2010 5:09PM I don't anticipate Blizzard slowly turning into Nexon, if that's what you're afraid of. I'm pretty sure Blizzard has a soul.
Apr 15th 2010 5:05PM That's one awesome mount, and I'm digging the BoA. Count me in.
Apr 14th 2010 1:05PM Basically, a few of you arguing for ToL's survival have legitimate points or good alternatives, but the majority of the outrage against its removal basically amounts to incredibly pervasive QQ, and it got annoying within the first twelve hours. The ToL comments are being downrated here because people are dragging an unrelated news post back into old territory to repeat the same arguments people have been covering the comments section with since Friday.
Activism is important in many cases, but the worst possible thing you can do for your cause is make people tired of hearing about it.
Apr 14th 2010 12:59PM It's because people are getting tired of seeing people throwing the same fit over the same pointless detail in every single Cata-related article that comes through.
Apr 14th 2010 12:56PM All this melodrama over what basically amounts to a cosmetic change!
Apr 13th 2010 4:03PM Never turn down a free meal, or look a (tiny) gift horse in the (tiny) mouth, I guess. May the luckiest dude win!
Apr 4th 2010 3:02AM For those defending gearscore's legitimacy, keep in mind that its basic utility isn't what people are arguing against here. Yes, you are correct -- gearscore DOES provide a basic outline of someone's stats. It can accurately reflect someone's raiding skill, too, although it's not good to count on that too much. The problem is less about gearscore itself and more about the people who use it to the exclusion of all other factors -- the endless seas of douchebags who misuse the information it gives them. It's a lot like Recount in that way; handy in a lot of cases, but taken in the wrong direction with tragic frequency.
