Mists of Pandaria beta: A guide to pandaren pronunciation {WoW}

Apr 4th 2012 8:08PM Perhaps someone can shed some light on this. What is the correct pronounciation of "Chi"? I've always learned it as "ki" like "key" and my dictionary lists the pronounciation the same way (it even lists alternate spellings as qi and ki) but I hear it as "chee" all the time. I prefer ki but I may be biased since I'm Japanese.

Mar 31st 2012 5:48PM During the discussion for the Demonology Warlock tanking glyph, GC made this comment that had me hopeful:

"For example, we want tanks to have to pick up separate tanking gear than their DPS gear (this is even true of druids) and want tanks to have to give up some of their DPS potential in exchange for their survivability."

I'd like to think that it means there will be broader choices for leather tanks and he's not just talking about rings and trinkets.

Mar 23rd 2012 1:28PM Q for Q: Has there been any word from the press event or beta on how the heirloom system will be reworked? I seem to recall GC mentioning a change incoming. Then again, he once said Typhoon was a temporary graphic in the wrath beta.... I just want to know if I should be spending justice points on the armour types I don't have or trade goods to AH.

Jan 3rd 2012 6:12PM I don't think the email was a phishing attempt, it didn't actually have links for me to click that sent me somewhere to log in. I'm paranoid about email links so if I think it's from ill go from my browser manually rather than the email. I don't even instal flash player when it tells me without going to their website myself. Besides, at this point I already couldn't log in so I didn't even follow up on it until I got the second email.

I knew about the serial number and restore code, I had just gotten lax about remembering where I had written it down because every other time I restored my phone or replaced or upgraded it I had no issues. Perhaps the only difference was that I used an iCloud backup to restore this time, which I don't recommend to anyone. So I agree that either the way apple restores phones from backups changed or the app itself has.

Jan 3rd 2012 2:08PM "I switched from physical to mobile authenticator. No problem there.

Then there was an update to the auth app. At which point, it stopped working. So I sent in a request to detach it from my account, but that took 3 days, and finally happened when I was asleep. An hour later, the account was hacked. 2 hours later, I woke up, reset the pw, and reached the authenticator, and all was well.

Does the mobile app lose its mind every time it's upgraded?"

This! This exact thing happened to me last week. In my case my phone broke and got a new one and suddenly stopped working with my account even though previously restoring my iPhone saved all the data I needed. Then I asked for it to be removed an my account was immediately hacked. In fact, the email that said my account had been closed for economy exploits came almost a day before I even got the confirmation that my authenticator was removed. It was enough for me to wonder of something had happened blizzard side for a while.

Blizzard short stories continue with "Charge of the Aspects" {WoW}

Dec 2nd 2011 3:39PM My only question is, where is Malfurion in all of this? Being that it focuses in at Hyjal and all, after Ragnaros is gone, and the Druids and Shaman are working together you'd think he'd make a cameo. Ysera made the big deal that Malfurion was getting more powerful than she is so it's odd how her connection is suddenly with Thrall.

I still don't like the idea of them getting rid of the aspects. Or is it just their immortality they lose? Why would the titans give them such a finite job, to stop one specific event from occurring, while still having things like Algalon?

Addon Spotlight: Grab bag 6, the grabbiest bag {WoW}

Nov 17th 2011 4:13PM BagSync sounds awesome! I've been using altoholic just for that functionality but it seems to give me a lot of UI errors. The only other feature from altoholic I like is mousing over recipes will tell you which toon can learn it and at what level, or if they already know it, but this bugs out on me a lot.

A question then, I'm not too fond of the vendor UI in place. It works for a lot of simple things, but especially Honour and Valor vendors it becomes a pain to click through pages of items. Is there an addon that allows me to filter vendors, say by slot, item level, or for normal vendors professions or the like? Or at least does the text search UI function in 4.3 work on vendors?

Shifting Perspectives: Why active shifting isn't the solution for druids {WoW}

Nov 11th 2011 8:39PM I think the way the developers are meaning this is that we are given the choice to hybridize. While we are DPSing we are doing just as good DPS as any other class. We only lose some DPS in this new model due to the fact that we are not actively damaging things when we shift out. But that is a choice we make, we don't have to stop being Moonkin if we don't want to, I think they even mentioned that about the final tier of Talents. Disentanglement is there for the lazy druid who doesn't really want to have to change all that often.

As for how useful things like Heart of the Wild would be, I don't think the main role would be for Moonkin to use it as Cat. Going from one DPS spec to another seems pointless. It's mainly to boost your off-spec things. So Moonkin, too, can use it in emergencies to heal. Or if the tank dies at the last burn phase you can switch to Bear to try and finish the fight.

The bottom line for this new model is more about choice than anything. You have the option to take on these off-spec roles since they are part of our tool-kit, or you can just focus on doing your DPS like usual and play like you do today.

"While I kind of understand your point, there is a point in national pride and mistaking cultural references. As a long time fan of both Chinese and Japanese cultures, calling MoP Asian seems a bit broad to me since it's mainly Chinese and maybe some southeastern Asian, while Night Elves got Japanese (so wow already has Asian)"

Thank you! I was about to post the same thing! I've always felt that the night elves were Japanese inspired in WoW (not so much in War3) and that the repeated use of the term "Asian inspired" is too general especially since the night elves have been around since day one. Then again, I suppose the way the Japanese see it, there is Asia, and there is Japan, so saying something is Asian doesn't apply to them. :P

I also see things on the flip side. As a Person of Japanese decent I don't much care to see a Chinese symbol wearing an iconic piece of Japanese culture, it seems crass and slapdash. Probably much less of an issue as WoW isn't even in Japan, but still. Now I'm trying to figure out what a decidedly Japanese animal would be.
