Feb 14th 2011 8:16PM Great article! What I'd expect Of wowinsider
Timely as well as my group finally had time to have a look in to BoT.
Feb 10th 2011 5:29PM How I wish other class guides were like this instead of a painstaking rehash of every bosses every ability with a few 'tips'.
Jan 25th 2011 4:30AM I was excited to see a post about locks till I read it. All that wall of text about boss abilities is silly. Why waste so much breath on something that can be read on wowhead or wowwiki. How bout some actual lock tips ! Fel flame whilst moving... I think I got better advise from the other readers comments. We have 3 specs that can approach a fight in their own manner yet all the op says is you need good aoe dps. Wow you think.
Not exactly an insider post. More like a hey this is a boss. Go kill it.
Oct 28th 2010 1:02AM I thought he'd be taller. But what about Dawn?
Jun 23rd 2010 8:34PM A shadow priest does not stand in the sun. We work our dark & twisted arts from the shadows of ..trees.
Who is this and what have you done with Fox.
Jun 10th 2010 11:21PM Its quite simple really. You put on SWP (shadow word pain) on the boss. Followed by DP (Devouring Plague) and then spam Smite and Holy fire on the boss. Never ever use your Mind Blast or Mind Flay - you want to save them for the special adds in the fight.
PS Mind Sear on Marrowgar is the bomb - cos it quickly takes out the bone spikes, and you get to top the dps meteres.
Jun 7th 2010 2:50AM lol. Just as well she was pushed to the light side. A priestess of the shadows destined for greatness would know that you dont get Mind Flay at level 1 and even if you did you'd start off with the touch of Vampires.
Jun 2nd 2010 9:06PM i agree, love the posts.
Only other thing i can think of is a mass dispel during the raging spirits phase, if your tank tends to get silenced at the wrong time, and the raging spirit, well rages.
Keep a quick finger on DP/SWD when running in form the edge to take out any straggling ice spheres.
P3 Mindsearing will cause a lot of aggro, keep fade, and disperse handy, obviously. As awesome as we are In 10M, a single spriest wont be able to take the vile spirits out in time before they start bombing. If the other raid members dont have good aoe, swap to a soaking strat, and focus on the LK instead. AOE on the first lot is still recommended though as youll be able to pull the vile spirits and disperse, giving tanks and dps time to sort out the raging spirits.
Mana does become an issue so remember to MB occasionally, and SF out as soon as its up.
May 26th 2010 10:21PM stupid thing cut me off.
Raid composition ie buffs, is a given. if you have a super geared
demo lock, chances are your dps will be better then someones group
that doesnt. Is the moonking debuff up all the time. do your fire
mages provide scorch/locks.
look at everything. -
-personal buffs - Whats the uptime on your procs :spirit to SP conversion (forget what its called). if youre geared in < 264gear, chances are your stacking haste. Geared spriests have more crit which leads to better procs.
As mentioned dot uptime is important.
-BL – did the super dooper trinket proc during or just before it? great SP during super haste is always better then none.
-Targets – eg NM Marrowgar. If the other priest is only dpsing LM then he will be better, chances are by the time we move to a bone spike and start casting itll be dead. Check if the other priest was mind searing during LM. This would mean hes got a smart -raid who stack in hit box. If yours like mine who love to stay away, moving away form the boss will mean less dps. Multi dots dont really count as its the cast time vs reward is very minor.
-Did they get boned? Or vile gas etc If comparing to BQ, what was their bite order?
-most important is the raid that the spriest is in. Chances are these top spriests have 24/9other like minded characters that want to excel. This means a quicker fight. DPS is dmg done / time taken. Total dmg done will always be the same ie boss health. If time is reduced then that raid will have a higher dps – and chances are the spriest will also have higher dps. This means that BL will account for a large portion of the fight as opposed to normal guilds/pugs where fights take forever, and BL may only account for 5%. Procs like engineering gloves, bereserking means we can be at top dps very quick. Our starting uptime is no longer considered that slow, considering we don’t MB all the time.
-if using pots, are you double potting. Did the other priest pot?
- did they receive focus magic, or power infusions? as mentioned compare all buffs/debuffs.
- did you use sfiends as soon as theyre available? mostly 2 per fight (depending on spec)
- are you using the right glyph for the fight? eg LK.
- keybinds – is it effective?
- are you using the right macros?
- are you positioning yourself right. less movement = more mind flay.
- do you look pretty?
May 26th 2010 10:00PM A few other things worth consideration when comparing to another spriest using logs.
