Warlock's green fire is not coming at release in MoP, no timetable {WoW}

Mar 27th 2012 10:06AM All I can think of is how CoH/V is older than WoW and has had the ability for players to change the colors of every power effect in their arsenal for years now... and they have no where near as large a player base or dev team.

The Queue: Sad Mat is sad {WoW}

Jan 25th 2012 12:34PM @Razion "Let's take Camp Taurajo as a classic example. The Alliance burned Taraujo to the ground--great, finally and Alliance militaristic achievement! Sure it was unimpressive, but the Alliance can really take just about anything at this point."

I wouldn't call waiting for the warriors and hunters to out in search of food then swarming the camp and murdering women, children, and elders a 'militaristic achievement'.

Unimpressive, yes. An achievement? Not so much... They could have hired mercenaries to do the same thing.

Profanity filters, homophobic slurs, and Blizzard's shaky relationship with the LGBT community {WoW}

Jan 25th 2012 10:50AM Blizzard has gone to pretty impressive strides to make the game as family friendly as possible. Hence, the language filter. It's not just for cursing, but for words that may seem offensive obscene to others.

Transsexual and homosexual being among them. These words probably weren't intended to be filtered, but their root word, sex, was. With the filter on, I can't say assassin because the word 'ass' in it twice.

However, in Blizzard's defense for a family friendly game (even though they have NPC's cuss and murder and torture), certain words might be best left on the filter list. The last thing a parent might want to be asked is "What's a transsexual" by their child who was reading trade chat.

As adults, we all have differing opinions on what is, and what isn't, offensive. While we should be able to talk and discuss these things maturely (though, I seriously doubt the thread on the official forums was anything but mature), we should acknowledge that there is a player base in the game that isn't ready to have their minds expanded beyond a certain point, or have certain things introduced to them yet.

Whether these words are removed from the filter or not is totally up to Blizzard, but I can't help but wonder who was offended more in this case; a trans/homosexual or someone who wasn't.

If it was the latter, they probably had a knee jerk reaction to their lifestyle having a filter in a game aimed at all ages and didn't think that some younger players might spark a bigger knee jerk reaction from their parents when using the word. This is understandable, but a bit more thought into the matter might have let them acknowledge that they can always turn the filter off and it not be a problem (if Blizz would fix the filter bug...)

If it was the former, they were probably trying to start a lot of controversy simply for the sake of upsetting people simply for the purpose of doing so.

Either way, the filter has been fine for almost a decade now with little problems arising from it. Let sleeping dogs lie in this case. Those mature enough to be able to discuss and bring up these words and the lifestyles they represent can turn the filter off and feel free to discuss them at their leisure. Those who aren't mature enough may have the filter of and simply bask in the blissfullness of their ignorance until they get a little older and a little wiser in the ways on the world.

Patch 4.0.6: Bloodlust's arena nerf {WoW}

Jan 6th 2011 9:21PM Why they can't do this for all arena problems when the abilities are fine for pve is beyond me. Did they finally realize they don't have to punish players in pve for arena and pvp problems?
