In before Ren 5... wait, that's not possible. If anyone, ANYONE ever makes a post regarding SWTOR, this kid is like a carnival pop-up game. You know, the one that gets hammered back down.
Now Ren, I know the odds of me talking any sense into you is virtually nil. However I am going to try.
SWTOR will not be released for another 69 days. Please stop commenting on that which you have no knowledge. Even IF on the outside chance you are as you claim a Beta tester, or have been one, whatever, who cares? The final build is not live... so please stop pumping up Rift to the detriment of all other games. You have absolutely no earthly idea what you are talking about.
My qualifications, I was in the SWTOR beta in November of last year. It was a mess and if it was to be released like that then yes I would complain! But it isn't. And yet I am plunking down my money to play the game because Bioware has a track record of making spectacular games.
First MMO? Check; we know that, WoW was Blizz's first attempt, and they SURE as hell didn't get it right. Itteration, itteration, itteration and they are now number 1.
Rift? they are doing well, I am playing it ATM. But it is far from perfect too, far to many servers for the number of players. But, it is fun and allows lots of freedom to choose what you want to do; they even give you the opportunity to choose bad talent builds.
The point of this is please stop knocking everyone's game but your own. Grow up and stop being THAT GUY on the forums. Be constructive, or be quiet. Go upstairs and ask your mom, she would agree with me.
Aug 3rd 2011 10:12AM Oh, I haven't forgotten yet either. There is no way they can spin that other than just flat out greed. I enjoyed D2 because it was an action/RPG that I could play alone and with friends if I was in a MP mood. Now it's going to be flat out pay to win (pardon the cliche.) I love the line about, well somebody, somewhere was going to do it, might as well be us.
Anyone wanna bet that someone quits Blizzard and starts a 3rd party transaction company? And who might get the contract? (Looking at you Cryptozoic)
Aug 3rd 2011 7:48AM I would like to point out that the 800 lb gorilla in the room just had a 799lb gorilla move in next to it. That gorilla is called SWTOR. And you know that Blizzard is trembling at the amount of market that it is going to bite off.
I mean come on, +200k preorders in just the first 7 days. Blizzard is looking at that and knowing they have to do something, anything to stem the tide they are going to look at what the player base has been asking for. Panderia is it.
Blizzard knows that their casual base is going to jump ship the day SWTOR comes out. They know that they have been shafting the casuals for years and so 4.2 came out to address that problem. Just read Fargo's article from a couple of months ago.
I like WoW, God knows I must, I have been playing since day one, but everyone in my gaming circle is heading to SWTOR when it comes out. And it's not a small circle. Blizzard has had a good run with WoW and no one will deny that. But it is very, very stale. And before the trolls say WoW in Star Wars space, thats true. It is a similar style. But the difference is 200+ hours per class of story... Blizz has what 20 before you hit 85? People will go to the new shiney and stay for the story. Until Titan comes out at least...
Jun 25th 2011 3:37PM It goes something like this. Our subscriber base is plumeting due to content everyone has seen and played for six years.
Let's get the l33t players still playing someone new to ridicule for having bad gear; the old casuals quit.
Jun 10th 2011 12:37AM I see a couple of things in the pipeline. 1st would be a release date of roughly 10/20 (that would be a hoot). Second, rift did a large series of closed betas and they launched what is by and large the most polished mmo yet. And third, swtor by it's nature is going to cause trion and blizzard a heart attack when it comes out.
I know it's anecdotal but casual players in WoW are fed up. Fargo has put out that blizzard has finally remembered them after 5 yrs. But it's too little to late I think. Trion has a fun game but it's fantasy, swtor is scifi. It's going to be a whole new world soon n
Jun 5th 2011 4:19PM It would seem that all of the people griping about the $25 fee would probably not think a second about spending that at the bar with their buddies for one night of dropping it into a urinal. Or going to Micky D's or buying $25 of junk food and then getting righteously angry when someone points out it's not healthy.
At least at the end of the day until they switch off the servers I got me some blue lion lovin.
Mar 18th 2011 4:23PM @Darren - your comment is easily recified by purchasing a token from the flying trainer a'la Northrend Flying and sending the ITEM, not the money to your lower geared toon. Again, no money is changing toons and the token is BoA. The idea is to stop gold floating around willy-nilly which is what provides cover for the gold farmers. As is admitted by the OP the movement of money is to buy big ticket items. If that can be curtailed, then large amounts of Gold can be easily tagged for followup by Blizzard.
An inconvience is worth far more than the robbery of an account. RIFT has a wonderful new system set up to combat this. Their coinlock system is in place for all accounts. If Blizzard were to enable this in addition to madatory authenticators, account stealing would be a thing of the past. Remember Account hackers aren't going to steal an account they have to work at. It's too much trouble.
Mar 18th 2011 1:15PM The easiest and most secure way of killing the gold selling business is to restrict gold interchange vendors, face to face transactions and auction house. No more mailing gold between characters only items. Period. CoD should be a thing of the past. That would destroy the ability of characters to be pillaged for gold and the money moved to cutouts. It would throw a huge hurdle in front of toons. Would it be a bit of inconvience? Yes. But gold is so easy to come by in the game that it would only hinder characters for the first 10-20 levels.
Mar 15th 2011 3:12PM 3 odd minutes of my life that let's me know that...
a. There is hell, it just showed on my monitor,
b. We have hit a new low on video entertainment,
c. Somewhere someone's kid thinks that was cool...
I just threw up in my throat, just a little.
I miss David Lee Roth
