Reader UI of the Week: Preserve priority with Sakuyan's UI {WoW}

Mar 22nd 2011 7:28PM I wish these types of UIs had a one-click installer so we could change our UI to look like that very easily. It's a beautiful UI and I'm mighty tired of my cluttered mess. Would be so great to just one-click and be done with it.

Guest Post: Northrend truckers -- a tale of WoW OTR {WoW}

Aug 6th 2010 6:21PM I would have never guessed in a million years that a trucker would be playing a priest! I always pictured truckers as the rough-and-tumble guys, like warriors or feral druids! Although I'm pretty sure I met a mage on the road once, in an 18-wheeler, he was putting along at 45mph in a 65mph zone. It's also quite possible that I've seen a paladin or two...I could tell due to all the lights all over the truck and the blatant disregard for safety as he passed me at 85mph...guess he thought he could bubble if he hit a slick spot.

I just hope I never see a moonkin driving an 18-wheeler, now THAT would be scary!

Cataclysm Beta: Feral druid specialization and talents {WoW}

Jul 19th 2010 2:39PM I have had SO much fun with my druid by going back into older instances and soloing them in bear form. It's also quite profitable. If they remove Improved Leader of the Pack, those days will be over. I am actually PRAYING that Blizzard gives us that talent back. It was such an amazing talent not only for bear soloing, but also for the rest of the raid, especially the healers. Bear will never be the same without it. We already see so few bear tanks, I am afraid that eliminating ILoP will be the straw that broke the camel', bear's back.

Please, please, please, Blizzard, if you are reading this... PLEEEEEEEEASE don't take away ILoP, I am BEGGING here and I never beg. Yes, it's THAT important to me.

Drama Mamas: Racism and setting social standards {WoW}

Jul 2nd 2010 2:58PM Carranza made a great point. Being white means that a person is inherently racist, according to modern politically correct society. That wears on a person pretty quickly, when you have to watch every single thing you say in the presence of people of other races. It's to the point where I don't even bother talking to people of other races if I can help it because there's a pretty good chance that they could misconstrue something I said and consider it racist, when I had no intention of this at all. Again, "racism" is driving a wedge between races, but there was nothing malicious going on. Political correctness has gone entirely too far in my opinion.

Others made points about the anonymity of the internet, which is another reason why people would say this stuff. There's little to no chance that anyone will ever know who you were, so there's not much of a reason to keep a person from using racial slurs, other than maybe getting their account banned. I'd guess we see a lot less of this when you're higher level, because people have a lot more to lose, considering how long it takes to level a character. People aren't going to take the chance of throwing away a month's worth of work (or more, if you're geared) over something as silly as a comment in chat.

Gnome Racism! Yes, I see it all the time! My poor little warlock is always being harassed because of his race! I guess now I know what it feels like to be a minority. :D

Drama Mamas: Racism and setting social standards {WoW}

Jul 2nd 2010 2:42PM While I am guessing that most of these racists are children or young teenagers who are just trying to get attention, I do see a bigger problem here. The problem is that everywhere we look we can find "racism". There are OBVIOUS signs of racism, like the racial slurs, which are COMPLETELY and TOTALLY uncalled for in both the game and society as a whole. However, there are other things that people get over-sensitive about, like the "white healer" thing. This is almost as absurd as the story out of Los Angeles last week when the NAACP made a big stink over the word "black hole" on a greeting card, and a city councilman did the same thing a few weeks before that, when one of his white colleagues said "the money seems to be disappearing down a black hole". People need to grow a bit thicker skin and realize that not everything is race-related just because it MAY sound that way.

As far as I'm concerned, all these cries of racism both in game and in society in general are actually doing more to keep the various races from getting along than anything else. It's to the point of insanity. If we cannot DISCUSS race in an honest manner, how can we ever solve the problems between the races? We can't! If a minority speaks about race, nobody bats an eye. If a white person speaks about race, it's automatically racist, even if the comment is positive, or is not meant to be slanderous. This is one of the biggest problems facing America today, and WoW is NOT immune.

There are differences between the races, that's a fact. We should be celebrating and embracing those differences instead of forcing them down into the depths of our brain. Each and every race has something they can provide to others. Until people realize that and they begin to address in a honest manner, there will be no end to malicious racism. That being said, I see VERY little actual malicious racism coming from the white community these days, unless it's from children who are trying to get attention or just be a pain in the rear. I can't even remember the last time I heard an adult say something blatantly racist to hurt the feelings of a minority.

As always, I believe "racism" is blown WAY out of proportion in the USA and in other countries around the world. If the lunacy continues, it will hurt race relations more than it will help it. Those people who say that "black hole" is racist are hurting the relationship between whites and blacks just as much, if not more than, anyone else. The same could be said of Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton, who would be out of a job if they didn't promote strife between the races. We need to remove ALL of the people who drive a wedge between whites and blacks, whether that person is white OR black. Until we do, there will be no peace between majority and minority, of that I am CERTAIN.
