Nov 28th 2011 12:12PM As long as your guild isn't called Guardians of the Light and isn't on the US Venture Co server, I'm sure you'll be fine. :)
Jul 6th 2010 2:36PM I know there's a lot of people that are going different ways here, but let me give a very real, very active problem on one server, and I assume that it might be out there on others.
On The Venture Co, we have a guild, that shall remain nameless for the sake of this post, that has already used peoples RL information and pictures to bash them endlessly on their website, and they brag about it, in game and on the forums. Blizzard hasn't made any effort, at all, to punish them for publishing peoples real life details through the game.
Now, how do you think the VeCo forums will end up with the guild posting addresses, phone numbers, emails, and pictures of said people? With real names, they just have to look it up. I found my name and connections to the fact that I play WoW in a matter of minutes, and my name isn't precisely unique.
This is the danger of such a system. Unless Blizzard actually punishes people for doing this type of stuff, it is going to hurt the real lives of players.
