Addons that you wish were still around {WoW}

Feb 8th 2012 5:42PM ZeldaHearts, definitely. It replaced your health/mana bars with the Zelda hearts and magic meter.

In defense of intellect plate {WoW}

Feb 5th 2012 4:13PM Prior to the Mists of Pandaria announcement at BlizzCon, I always assumed that the next class to be added would be a sort of battlemage to make someone else need spell plate. Obviously that didn't turn out to be true, though I still feel that a battlemage/spellsword feels more 'Warcrafty' than a monk does.

Have reforging demands become too complex? {WoW}

Jan 31st 2012 1:43PM Stat optimization will always require an outside source to master, if for no other reason than the various different ways specs prioritize stuff like crit/haste/mastery. Having said that, there are things that can be done to lower the difficulty of understanding statistics. One solution is to have the ethereals give general pieces of advice (like if you say you want more crit they might point out that you're over the hit cap or have an excess of mastery, for instance). Another is for stats to be shown as their percentages in addition to ratings. I see no reason why, for example, my ring can't say "Increases haste rating by 50 (0.25%)" or whatever.

Would removing legendaries be a benefit for the World of Warcraft? {WoW}

Jan 27th 2012 7:52PM There was another article on WoWInsider a few days ago that suggested 'guild-bound' legendaries. These items would be limited one to a guild and be able to be passed between guild members. While a system like this has some obvious issues that would need to be dealt with, I think it'd be better than the current legendary setup.

Speaking personally, while I"m annoyed at not being able to complete my dragonwrath chain now that 4.3 is out and firelands has fallen out of favor, I'm even more frustrated that I won't see the rest of the quest's lore moments (I want cutscenes, dammit!)

Shifting Perspectives: Why active shifting isn't the solution for druids {WoW}

Nov 11th 2011 7:12PM "Abilities such as Ursol's Vortex, Displacer Beast, Demoralizing Roar, and Tireless Pursuit are great utility talents to have. There's a wide variety of uses that you could find for all of them. The issue is that none of those situations has anything to do with DPS at all."

Blizzard is intentionally trying to avoid giving direct DPS boosts through the MoP talents. If the talents are useful, but not capable of improving dps, then that's mission accomplished.

One problem I have with arguments made in a lot of these class articles is that a lot of practices or mechanics are dismissed as needing change because they involve a dps loss. Yea, damage dealers need to do their thing well to kill a boss, but they can still do it while helping out on other things. Would you rather have a dps in your raid that deals 30k, or one that deals 23k and also interrupts/dispels/etc.?

Blood Pact: Distinguishing destruction from fire {WoW}

Nov 7th 2011 9:58PM I think that the two specs are more distinct than this article implies. Sure, they may have thematic similarities (the DoTers nuke spec and the nukers DoT spec), but their priorities and playstyle are still different. Fire is about maximizing the DoTs in order to proc Hot Streak and boost Combustion. Destruction is about the nukes plain and simple, and its DoTs only exist to prop up Incinerate and Conflagrate. Having said that, I also think that the idea of Destruction losing its cohesion in the MoP changes is unfounded. Anything that is an integral talent now will still be around as a spec ability. If anything, the talent system by its current nature will ALREADY improve the thematic distinction between fire and destruction since it gives destro warlocks access to shadow and demon-themed abilities instead of more fire ones.

Ready Check: How legendaries destroy PVE {WoW}

Oct 23rd 2011 5:45PM Do Legendaries offer a substantial dps/healing increase? Of course.
Is this increase important for world/server-first guilds? Probably.
Is it an actual balance issue, even at the top tier? Probably not.

The world first heroic Ragnaros was done by Paragon in July. The world first Dragonwrath was completed by Premonition in August. I'm pretty sure this means that legendaries aren't taken into account when heroics are balanced.

The Queue: Zombie goasts, leave this place {WoW}

Sep 22nd 2011 12:10PM Will the Dragon Soul raid be tuned under the assumption that we have gear from Dragon Soul Looking For Raid? Or will we be ok so long as we have gear from Firelands/4.3 5mans?

Know Your Lore: Karazhan and the Dark Riders of Deadwind Pass {WoW}

Aug 14th 2011 9:08PM "Malygos regained his sanity just before the events of The Burning Crusade and spent most of that expansion pulling the ley lines of the world to the Nexus in order to prevent mortals from accessing the arcane energies."

I'm not sure this is correct. From what I understand, it was the energies of the Netherdrakes that helped Malygos get his sanity back. These drakes brought back by Tyrigosa after players helped her defeat one of their leaders. Since the quest for this occured during BC, I don't think it's accurate to link Malygos's actions to Karazhan's demon problem. How Malchazzar was able to take control of the tower was never really explained as far as I can tell.

The Queue: Missed a spot {WoW}

May 12th 2011 12:31PM During the Cataclysm beta, I remember there was a WoW Insider article about a lasershark being added to the Maelstrom to make it more epic. I've been to the Maelstrom a bunch of times and no matter where I look I just can't see the shark! Where can I find it?
