The WoW economy code of ethics {WoW}

Jan 31st 2012 9:55AM This is like saying buying marijuana from a friend who grows it is supporting unethical behavior because the market price is set by people who do bad things. The only reason that people with questionable ethics are the ones who grow and sell pot is because in most places you cannot do it without risking very severe legal repercussions.

Paying money for gold is only unethical because there is no "legal" way to do this. A market's real function is to feed demand. This, buying gold, is a demand that exists only because it is accepted ethical behavior to pay real money for in game World of Warcraft gold.

The best way to fix unethical gold selling is for Blizzard to just sell its gold at cheap enough of a price that gold farmers cannot compete.

But this "best way" may not be good enough, which would explain why it hasn't happened yet. The catch is selling it cheap enough that they can't compete. This really may be more harmful to the game than the gold sellers are currently. Indeed it may have been a solution whose window of opportunity past with the launch of the game itself.

Profanity filters, homophobic slurs, and Blizzard's shaky relationship with the LGBT community {WoW}

Jan 26th 2012 1:56AM I don't think that someone's right to feel comfortable is as important as everyone else right to feel like they may express themselves as they see fit.

Harassment is one thing. But there are systems in place to keep people who harass others out of the game. Harassment is persistent. Censoring the use of a word is never going to keep any form of intended harassment from happening.

As far as people saying "You try being gay. It's everywhere."
I am gay. I see it. I even call idiots "fags" and unfortunate situations "gay." I have never been offended by being called a fag on the internet. Sorry.

Direct, persistent slurs thrown at me in bars in the rural part of Tennessee I live in though? Offended and frightened every time. But do I think people should go to jail for calling their friends "a bunch of faggots" really loud in a public bar? No. Throw them in jail for getting in my face and threatening me with "faggot" because I'm different.

The word faggot isn't the important thing here. The harassment is.

p.s. But why the fuck is homosexual filtered? Makes no sense!

Gold Capped: Breaking the glyph wall {WoW}

Aug 21st 2010 5:32AM On my server, glyphs sell from about 8-40g. I've been in this market for about a year now. These sale prices are pretty rock solid.

For the past year, a single person has posted about 10 of every single glyph at 75g. I haven't been able to figure out why. I can't imagine the g/hr is good for any they might sell. And it's sooo far above market price that unconfigured auctioneer filters it out. Any insight?
