Healing Morchok and Warlord Zon'ozz {WoW}

Dec 2nd 2011 11:51PM My 10-man raid group found Zon'ozz to be very tough to heal on our first night in the new raid. After 4 tries we went to Yor'sahj which we killed on the 3rd try, and found it to be a much easier and more forgiving fight for the healers. I'd say that Yor'sahj is a better "second fight" for the raid than Zon'ozz.

Arcane Brilliance: The mage survival guide, part 1 {WoW}

Feb 5th 2011 5:53PM Well, I am playing Fire spec, so I am used to almost every spell except for Fireball being able to be cast on the move. So if I get knocked in the air, my immediate thought is NOT to cast Slow Fall, Blink, or Ice Block, but instead to cast Scorch, Living Bomb, Fire Blast, or a Hot Streaked-Pyroblast--especially when the fall damage is only about 10k like on that fight. Unfortunately, when I died it was because I got unlucky in that it knocked me off the edge and THAT was enough fall damage to kill me before I could react.

Arcane Brilliance: The mage survival guide, part 1 {WoW}

Feb 5th 2011 5:04PM I think most mages know this, but it bears repeating--don't forget that Cauterize only protects you from *attacks* that would kill you. Environmental damage, such as from a fall, will not trigger Cauterize. This makes sense that you can't use it to just jump off cliffs, but when you die from getting knocked in the air by a whirlwind on the second boss fight in Vortex Pinnacle and wonder why Cauterize didn't save you--that's why.

The Road to Mordor: The final ding {Massively}

Jan 28th 2011 10:26PM When I hit the level cap in LOTRO I finished off the quests in Mirkwood, and then decided to let my subscription last for one more month. I finished off low-level quests (especially the Epic quests I hadn't finished the last time I hit the level cap during Moria), did dailies, and ran skirmishes. I was getting pretty tired of them by the time my subscription ran out.

After LOTRO went F2P I came back and mostly fooled around with new characters. All I really wanted to do on my max-level character was the new content in Enedwaith, but I wasn't ready to either buy the quest pack or pay for the VIP plan. Some day soon, I'll fire up LOTRO again for at least a month. I do want to run through Enedwaith before Isengard comes out.

The Tattered Notebook: Why Velious is so important {Massively}

Jan 24th 2011 6:06PM No mention of the Coldain Shawl tradeskill quest? That quest was probably the biggest thing I have ever dedicated myself to in an MMO. And even though I didn't start playing EQ until Lost Dungeons of Norrath, four expansions later, the reward from that quest was still one of the best items you could get without raiding.

I played EQ2 off and on since release, but the last time I played was almost 2 years ago, during The Shadow Odyssey. Sentinel's Fate wasn't interesting enough to draw me back, but Destiny of Velious might be, especially since they have a Coldain Shawl tradeskill Heritage Quest.

(I guess technically it is the "Coldain Prayer Shawl" but no one ever called it by its full name.)

Arcane Brilliance: Patch 4.0.1 stat weights and gemming for mages {WoW}

Oct 30th 2010 7:01PM This is exactly correct. Arcane Mages should actually avoid haste because we would much rather hit harder at higher mana (to take advantage of Mana Adept) than burn through mana and thereby reduce our damage. I can't say for sure that mastery is any better than crit right now, but the argument against haste makes a lot of sense to me.

Rock Band Weekly: The Doors, a Rush song {Joystiq}

Oct 29th 2010 5:11PM @spikeylee: Nope, sorry, they don't get any slack. :)

The week that Rock Band came out there were 15 songs in the store with 3 more the week after that. The week that Rock Band 2 came out they added 11 songs, and the week after that they added 7 more. If they hadn't set a precedent I wouldn't be complaining.

Rock Band Weekly: The Doors, a Rush song {Joystiq}

Oct 29th 2010 4:23PM @Ghoti: I actually was referring to the fact that his week you can get 3 Doors songs for free, and pay for 9. Next week you have to buy all 12 (or individually). I realize I wasn't very clear in my initial post. The point is that 12 out of the 13 songs available next week are also available this week. Only 1 new song is pretty unprecedented from what I can remember.

Rock Band Weekly: The Doors, a Rush song {Joystiq}

Oct 29th 2010 1:39PM So next week, we effectively get 1 new song and a price increase? That's pretty weak. I already bought the Doors songs, and Rush songs are always awesome to play, but I'm still hoping that there's a mistake and more songs are going to be released.
