Anti-Aliased: A few thoughts on the Final Fantasy XIV beta pt. 2 {Massively}

Sep 11th 2010 2:06PM having played the beta for probably 20+ hours, i am surprised by the fact that im now unsure if ill be buying this game anymore, i went into it thinking that it would be a different experience ...it IS different from 11 in many respects but it is also different from what i was expecting.

i certainly didnt expect the crafting/fishing system to be so esoteric and ridiculous, (granted ive only tried it for a few hours)...it reminds me so much of FF in that it seems like one big time trap to keep you in the game...i know this is what MMOs are made for but it seems cheap. for example, the maps are incredibly expansive and you must run to opposite sides often...theres no auction house so i have to run to the fucking area where everybody sets up there bazaar and browse through literally dozens and dozens of individual retainer bazaar to MAYBE find what im looking for.

oh and everyone ignores everyone else, for the most part...ive gotten a reply to questions (both using auto translate and english) maybe twice...and ive had MANY questions. and before you say, "well maybe no one knows" i was asking about crafting around a dozen ppl crafting or finishing crafting successfully. these are probably minor annoyances to some or even non-issues to others but to me its a big deal.

some things i like are the ability to change classes on the fly, however the ability swapping is a bit tedious and annoying.

i was expecting a more western-stylized game (which is what i gathered from reading american PR reps say that it would be)

it just seems like a very long grind and im not sure i have the time for that kind of game anymore.

though i do like that you dont NEED a party anymore that you can solo fairly easily.

PAX 2010: Your questions answered by SWTOR's Blaine Christine {Massively}

Sep 11th 2010 1:37PM oh and PVP! will they have a FFA PvP server? i loved that about age of conan. i loved the fact that you had to watch your back at all times, even from groupmembers because they could just drop group and attack you...it added a great element to the game.

PAX 2010: Your questions answered by SWTOR's Blaine Christine {Massively}

Sep 11th 2010 1:34PM i dont know whether to be excited about this game or just try not to get my hopes up. ive been waiting for this game for years and have tried to keep up to date about it but recently i just gave up as they refuse to give a definitive release date, and barely a release window. they also are very aloof about group questing, well actually about everything...for like a year we were wondering what friggin jobs there would be.

i know they say its an MMO but im worried itll be a rather single player existence and I personally enjoy playing with others on MMOs...i especially liked warhammers public quests and RvR aspect...if these warzones resemble that then ill be happy about that.

from all the walkthroughs its been like 2-3 ppl running through a quest. and dont get me started on the "stylized" art direction...

i just dont know anymore lol
