Totem Talk: Elemental shaman leveling from 1 to 20 {WoW}

May 27th 2011 7:27AM Corrected, thanks for the spot.

Totem Talk: The evolution of elemental shaman in patch 4.2 {WoW}

May 13th 2011 4:15AM LB glyph is currently 'king', none of the other prime glyphs come close to the same amount of DPS, because LB does more of our damage than LvB. The uLB glyph will therefore have to replace either LvB or FS: as the value of these two glyphs depends on your own abilities (e.g. managing shock cooldowns) and the value of your gear, and the style of fight. LvB makes up a bigger percentage of our damage in movement fights, but if we're able to cast LB on the run the reverse will be true.

May 13th 2011 4:11AM Yes, I'm still not happy that our damage reduction is tied to either a) our pew pew button or b) being a dwarf (not that I mind.) I think the changes to the shields, and to Thunderstorm and our PvP set bonus will go a good way to helping, but I'm going to have to dust off my pvp skills and try it out when it goes live.

And agree with you - I play elemental for things like big Lava Bursts, turning people into frogs and turning into a wolf. And thunderstorming at opportune moments. I played a shadow priest all the way through burning crusade because I liked contributing to the team in ways that weren't just my DPS, and I appreciate that now even though the ability to off-heal has been so severely hampered.

The 4 set bonus is not predictable, and it isn't really a boost to mobility on it's own. Plus it is dependant on your own ability to get Lava Burst out as soon as you see it proc. Although there is a lot of potential in these bonuses, and I like the philosophy behind them (an active change to our buttons/casting as opposed to a passive crit boost.)

May 13th 2011 4:02AM That's certainly a good perspective. A friend of mine, Gaz, did a post on playing a shaman after playing a mage and he drew a lot of comparisons between the two classes (crit adoration aside.) You'll be faster to adapt than I will, so perhaps I should dig out that mage alt...

May 13th 2011 4:01AM As the comment above me point out, CL on single targets has gone the way of the dodo, having been completely replaced by Earth Shock/Fulmination (and also made irrelevant by Lava Surge.)

Thanks for the welcome back, hopefully life will swing less curveballs my way and there should be no more hiccoughs with elemental posts ;)

May 13th 2011 3:58AM Indeed, I think the problems with early previews of set bonuses were discussed in the Scattered Shots column this week - we're still waiting for details. I just was more interested in that glyph than I was in doing a gear list ;)

Totem Talk: The evolution of elemental shaman in patch 4.2 {WoW}

May 13th 2011 3:57AM I find when I do well, it's generally when I've lined up everything perfectly and been extremely lucky with movement/fight mechanics. I'm not adapting well to the new AoE abilities, although I have no doubt there are plenty of players who can already squeeze every last drop of DPS out of them. For me, the new AoE plus SWG (or this new glyph) is going to take me a long time to adapt to.

May 13th 2011 3:55AM You are completely correct. Apparently the return of my raid leader from Wrath is giving me flashbacks! Edited, thanks for that.

Totem Talk: Addons for elemental shaman {WoW}

Apr 1st 2011 4:22AM That would be SnowfallUnit: http://www.wowinterface.com/downloads/info14998-SnowfallUnit.html It's not hugely configurable, but you can unlock all the unit's by right clicking the focus portrait and selecting 'unlock'.

It's rather old and hasn't been updated in a while, but I rarely have problems with it and find it easier than faffing around with more complicated addons to get things perfect.

World of WarCrafts: Blizzard fan fiction runner-up Celine Taillefer {WoW}

Mar 31st 2011 6:35PM Definitely a great story. Congratulations again Celine.

And where have you been hiding these Fandrel blingees! :o
