Breakfast Topic: Are pretty pixels important to you? {WoW}

Jun 12th 2011 11:05AM As Jonisjalopy said:

"The dye doesn't have to change the entire piece to one color, but at least a general swap of color would be nice."

EQ didn't allow you to just totally flop the armors color. A dye tinted or shaded what was already there, with the color added.

That would be very simple to implement. And get the same results.

Jun 12th 2011 9:39AM It's a fallacy. they're looking for an excuse.

EQ's dye system was nothing more than a tinting set up really.

You applied a color dye to your armor, and it tinted the armor that color. It worked just fine. The original color need not be changed at all.

It's more a case of "I dun wanna!" so they are making excuses, than anything else. Probably because they didn't think about it, and because another game already did it (Not that Blizzard/WoW has ever usually had issues with idea theft before)

And for the item appearance thing. I can't imagine that would be terribly hard to implement either. It would mean a slightly larger character database needing saved, but I can't imagine it would be a lot of space. It'd be just another equipment option like they have now for equipment sets.

Click the slot. and pick from a pull down menu of the appearances of previous equipment; just the appearance changes. Nothing else.

Jun 12th 2011 8:09AM It surprises me armor dyeing isn't available.

Honestly, EQ showed this functionality in 2003.

And by the same token, they displayed the ability to save item visualizations in EQ2. (the ability to use the look of any previous item you had looted any item you had slotted for use.)

That would go a long way toward customization.

Jun 11th 2011 11:17AM A week lockout wouldn't be tolerated...

As I recall, it wasn't just the lockout.

It was the boss mob race too. Imagine a boss mov coming up to stand til killed, and he only came up ONCE, for a single kill. If you didn't get him first, you were out of luck for a week. Come back and try again, get there first or stand around and watch.

Or try and kill steal it by doing more damage, or stepping in during the corpse runs after a wipe and steal it.

There was REAL competition in Everquest, some times almost bloodthirsty.

Apr 30th 2011 11:20PM The Northrend pets were both there last year. For everyone. You just couldn't do the quest for the tribe that hated you.

Should be the same this year.
