Lichborne: Mists of Pandaria beta first impressions for death knights {WoW}

Apr 4th 2012 8:29AM @jynxycat

Why does 2h frost have to differ in playstyle from dw frost? The point of the flexibility is not to give a de facto third spec, it's to give frost dk's the flexibility to run with whichever weapon they prefer to wield and/or whichever gives them the best output. Your point is moot anyway: I've run all three options in all cata raid tiers and while the playstyle between the two frost options isn't as markedly different as the difference between frost and unholy, it IS still a bit different in the pacing and in the priorities. I LOVE the fact that Blizzard nuanced it just differently enough so that I was able to switch back to my preferred spec in T13 because my comfort level with the spec overcame any perceived shortcomings in damage output.

I just really hope Blizz does something to make blood more interesting. I was a tank all through wrath, but gave it up in cata because I felt dps was more interesting, and the risk/reward of dps' survivability was more at the forefront of a raid's success than the abilities of a tank that essentially just stands there and spams death strikes all day long.

Raid Rx: Healing a level 80 dungeon vs. a level 85 dungeon {WoW}

Nov 27th 2010 1:58PM Wrath heroics were hard in the beginning, but not this hard. One thing that we didn't have to deal with when Wrath heroics were new was the LFD tool: it hadn't been released yet. This forced us to run with people we knew or at least put a LITTLE effort in to form a group, which created a slight bit more cohesion when it actually came time to zone into the instance.

I for one will be avoiding LFD until I know each instance and each fight backwards and forwards.

Scattered Shots: Hunter threat management {WoW}

Nov 1st 2010 12:07PM This reminds me of a fire mage we had in our guild back during BC when we had Kara on farm. Once the tank pulled Attumen, the mage would start a verbal countdown in vent before he opened up with his full broadside, then see how long it took to pull threat off the tank. It got to the point where, as soon as we started pulling trash, we would actually start bidding on how many seconds he'd give the tank before he would open up. Good times for all but the tank, who decided he'd had quite enough shenanigans and quit playing the game. =/

Know Your Lore: The peculiar tale of the Headless Horseman, page 2 {WoW}

Great article.

BlizzCon 2010: The view from fourth grade {WoW}

Oct 24th 2010 9:52PM I just want to piggyback on what Eregos said. My daughter is 13 and has been playing since vanilla was released, first on my account and then on her own account. She now reads at a 12th grade level, has amazing problem solving skills, and has learned that there is both good and bad to the internet social scene.

Sure, there is a small amount of douchebaggery that goes on, but it has only been beneficial to her development: her first efforts at random instance tanking provided me the golden opportunity to teach her why the development of a thick skin is a necessary survival skill both in wow and in life, and taught her the value of telling people right off the bat that she's new yet coachable. 90% of the adults I know have never properly developed either of those traits!

Breakfast Topic: What won't you miss about Wrath? {WoW}

Sep 25th 2010 9:40AM As a player with a server full of 80's that fill all roles, and as a tank since vanilla, I won't miss:

People griefing about DK players (and DK tanks in particular). DK tanking is what kept me interested throughout the entire expansion.

Waiting 15 minutes in queue as a dps after being spoiled by the insta-queue as a tank.

Getting up to go grab a drink with five minutes to go on the LFD timer, only to come back in two minutes to see I was removed from the queue!

Zoning into heroic HOR only to see the tank insta-quit because he's too scared to tank the one challenging heroic left.

The end-of-expansion-life doldrums that killed not one, not two, but THREE of my raids that were all stuck on LK.

Jousting.
