Ghostcrawler explains spec-specific quest rewards in MoP {WoW}
Mar 29th 2012 9:21PM @emberdione
Good point. I remember that happening to my druid as well. Not sure how you can really get around that. Maybe they could arrange quest rewards such that only 1 item would be useful to any given spec. Or maybe allow players to toggle this feature off and choose their reward. I don't really understand why level 85+ players need this kind of "bad player proofing." By that point you should know what primary stat you need. Maybe if you used scroll of resurrection to auto-level.
Ghostcrawler explains spec-specific quest rewards in MoP {WoW}
Mar 29th 2012 8:52PM It shouldn't be too big of a problem for off-spec. Generally a single quest doesn't contain the same type of armor for different specs. For example, a single quest usually won't reward both Intellect leather and Agility Leather. It will be one or the other.
Breakfast Topic: Has your opinion about the pandaren changed? {WoW}
Mar 26th 2012 10:50AM I realize many people are excited about the expansion, and I respect their opinion. However, I still feel like the concept for MoP is a bad direction for WoW. The pandaren seem too comical to me. Yes, WoW has always involved elements of humor, but I feel like this is going too far and taking away from the serious nature of the game. BC was about an invasion of aliens/demons. WotLK was about an invasion by a vast undead army. Cata was about a huge dragon bent on destroying the world. MoP is about....Pandas who fit a stereotypical Asian image. I am just not sold. The content looks amazing so far, but I can't help but think what WoW would be if they focused all this creative energy on a more compelling expansion theme. This is just my opinion, I don't suggest it's the only valid one. And yes, I will still play MoP despite these misgivings.
Ready Check: Tiered raid progression vs. raid accessibility {WoW}
Feb 11th 2012 10:20AM Great article! I would just add two points to why the new model is costly. (1) Blizzard spends a lot of time creating raids, and now players will never see any content except the current tier. In BC, players raided Kara the entire expansion. In WOTLK, there was absolutely no reason to go back to Naxx, Ulduar, or ToC once IC was relased. The same is true for Cata. Players miss out on some great raid experiences and it feels like all that creative energy is going to waste. (1) It takes away some of the feeling of accomplishment for completing a raid tier. You feel on top of the world for a short period, but then the next tier is released and you are equalized with all the other players who simply run 5-mans. We can all accept that this must happen with each expansion, but it's kind of unnerving that it happens every patch. All this being said, I understand why Blizzard cose to go this route. It makes a lot of business sense to make raiding more accessible.
Breakfast Topic: What parts of gameplay do you consider a chore? {WoW}
Feb 4th 2012 11:49AM Fishing/Cooking daily quests. At least in WOTLK the fishing rewards would occasionally contain something really nice (like a epic gem or water-logged recipe.) The Cata ones give you junk items you can only sell for gold (unless this has changed recently...I haven't played in a while due to school). Also, I don't like how the best feast recipe can't even be purchased with cooking tokens....kind of takes the incentive out of doing them.
The Queue: A sudden increase in prudishness {WoW}
Feb 3rd 2012 12:10PM All good points. I'm certainly not trying to troll. I'm not sure the breaking into a house analogy is entirely accurate because Blizzard can fix the bug and essentially undo any damage that is done.
I would clarify that I think some exploits certainly should result in a ban. The infinite gold bug would be one such case. That type of exploitation harms others because it disrupts the game economy and will be very difficult for Blizzard to undo once the gold has changed hands several times. But to look at another example, the Saronite Bomb bug on the Lich King encounter, what harm is done there? Yes, other guilds were denied the World First achievement, but isn't that achievement supposed to go to the most innovative and dedicated guild? I would also note that because of the guild's use of that bug, it was fixed before the vast majority of raiders ever saw the Lich King encounter.

Feb 3rd 2012 11:30AM Does anyone else think Blizzard shouldn't ban people from "exploiting" bugs? One of the major draws of MMOs are maximizing your characters DPS/healing/avoidance. This is exactly what these players are doing. Why put the burden on the players to decide what is a bug and what is just intelligent game play? They cannot read the minds of the game's programmers. Additionally, the players who make use of these loopholes actually help Blizzard identify the problem which may otherwise go unnoticed for a longer period of time. Once the bug if fixed, no harm is done to the WoW community. In fact, exploitation actually puts pressure on Blizzard to monitor game mechanics more closely, which is better for the game in the long run.
