Feb 6th 2011 2:03PM I'll be attempting to complete the meta, though I'm not sure its going to happen. I noticed the holiday bosses aren't in the dungeon finder, I wonder why.. hopefully thats a bug too.
As for valentine's day out of azeroth, well on the 13th I'll be at the tattoo shop with my boyfriend for what has become our yearly valentine's day tattoos. He'll be getting work done on his back piece. The following saturday I'll be getting an old tattoo covered with a newer, more awesome tattoo.. normally we'd have the whole day booked with our artist, but she was so booked up that we needed separate days. On the 14th we'll probably go to dinner, or I'll make him dinner.. somethin. :)
Feb 5th 2011 10:33AM I must confess, my main's bank is.. well just about full.. even after deathwing shattered all the vials I had (except the crystal ones). I have silly things, mostly holiday things thinking I may need to hang on to them if I didn't complete the achievement. Also, this past brewfest was the first holiday boss that I could actually do because of dungeon finder, so I kept whatever I got from him. I couldn't actually equip a tankard o terror, however, theres one in my bank. I equipped the trinkets because they were better than whatever I had equipped before (I don't raid or do heroics.. at least not yet, so gear is whatever quest rewards and ah crafted stuff). I think I still have the horseman rings that have been replaced by new cataclysm gear, but they took me so long to get I didn't want to vendor them. I also have the first alchemy trinket I was able to craft. Along with a lowbie cape that my boyfriend crafted with leatherworking back when he was playing, he mailed it to me with a letter. I kept both. :) He hasn't played in a while, but I can't bring myself to wear the cape or destroy the letter. I think I still have some weapons from when I was working toward the achievement for maxing weapon skills. The staff I had equipped was my favorite, but I swapped it out for a nice pole arm and a mace, and I'm pretty sure I kept them all even after I got the feat and have since replaced the old staff with a nice shiny new one. I'm sure there are other little things in there, just can't recall everything.
Jan 31st 2011 9:08AM Questing in Hyjal just after installing. I took some time to explore new stormwind, put my talents in order, etc.. then went looking for the new quest to go to the new areas. Kept waiting for that boat to Vash'jir (didn't realize it literally took FORDAMNEVER) and gave up and took the portal to Hyjal. One of those first few quest where you need to kill those cultist folk. The respawn rate was crazy! My 80 NE druid, in mostly crafted purples, was doing fine 1 on 1, maaybe surivived a mob of 2-3, with some self healing involved. However, when it got to the point that the last of the mob went down there was a respawn right on top of it giving me little time to recover. First time it happened, I died. I died a few times there just trying to handle the respawns. It happened when I finally figured out how to get to Vash'jir, but by then I'd gained a level and a bit of a routine in trying to be prepared.
Side note - have yet to stand in the fire. Deathwing is apparently avoiding me. I've been doing archeololgy stuffs in lots of the old world areas since the beginning of the expansion and I haven't run into him.
Jan 31st 2011 8:56AM omg that fish! yes, the one that picks you up and carries you around.. ate my druid (literally) till one time I was able to kill it while it was eating me. That sucked!
Jan 30th 2011 11:46PM Thanks for both replies! @Ice I haven't had trouble healing wearing the pieces of plate that I had. I'd been replacing the mail I had because thats what I thought I was supposed to do. I'd been looking for the spirit/intel or whichever, but I hadn't realized I'd lost as much as I had until some (angry) tank yelled about queueing as a healer without "healer gear", since he'd died twice in Stratholme and then left without waiting for me to say anything. Though we re-queued with another tank, and healing that tank wasn't an issue. Though the group never finished because dps kept leaving and I got tired of waiting and also I was bugged by the fact that no matter how hard I was trying to keep my gear 'right' that it was still making me fail. Today I got a good group and finished stratholme, which I was glad because I was starting to think it WAS my fault. Prior to that I never had issues healing, keeping tanks up even if they had less health than me. Mana really hasn't been an issue, I've hardly ever had to drink, though I do if there is downtime (say theres someone else that needs to mana up).
I did look at my gear, and noticed the lack of intel, bought some peices at the ah that I could find. But, both bits of advice are helpful. there is a lot of good cloth gear out there, I outfitted my resto druid in some of it before I went all leather. I hadn't thought about the benefits of mixing and matching.
Jan 30th 2011 5:45PM Question for the Queue: I've been leveling my new tauren pally through Tanaris, and I've noticed something strange along the way. Some of the named npcs that need to be killed (gargantapid is the most recent one I noticed) show as skull ?? level, yet they're relatively easy kills. Easier than some of the elites that killed along the way that were around my level (for example the 46-50 elites that are in the quests in gadget's thunderdrome). Is this a bug, and they're actual regular level nameds, or is the skull just meaning they're the marked one that needs to be killed (the icon on the map is a skull)?
Jan 30th 2011 4:00PM I recently started a holy pally (tauren), I'm level 49 (bout halfway to 50). My question is about gear, I did read the Holy Pally 101 and noted the stats I'm looking for.. but do I want spirit now as well as intel? Since the tooltip from some of the talents or abilities mentions a gain from spirit. I know intel is always good: I've got a resto druid, a priest and a healy shaman. Gearing the others (I'm talking about quest gear, some drops from random instances and crafted items from the auction house) hasn't been too difficult - especially the clothy. My problem has been finding plate with intel or spirit. Should I not be wearing plate? I tried searching for some mail items, thinking maybe I should go back to mail armor, but it was a bunch of the same. I did find a couple items with intel, one of them a 2-headed mace. Then I remember reading somewhere about using a single hand and an off-hand. I'm trying to get the right combination of gear before it gets to expensive to fix.
Jan 28th 2011 2:31PM The only 3 things I have to have are Healbot for my healers, OneBag, and MailOpener. I can deal without onebag and mailopener, but not without healbot. I never thought I'd need an addon for mail, but lately I've been making a lot of use of the auction house, and opening all that mail is a little time consuming (and just a pain) so I went looking for one. I like that it gives a summary of the number of items and/or the amount of money i've recieved.
I've used other add-ons, but I cut down a lot when I was trying to figure out why I couldn't keep the game running on my laptop. Turns out deathwing hates my video card, but thats ok.. needs upgrading anyway.
Stuff that got tossed: questhelper (well it wasn't going to work in cataclysm anyway, and blizzard's works just fine), gathermate (or something like that), couple of fishing ones who's names I can't remember, atlasloot/atlas maps (I liked these, but now that most dungeons have maps I didn't think I needed them).. there were others, but I got rid of them so long ago I can't remember the ones I tried and hated.
Jan 23rd 2011 1:01PM This is so true. I just joined a horde guild with my new tauren pally about a week ago. It was a random invite, one of their officers asked me if I'd like to join, so I did. Its a new guild, so there is always someone new joining each day. Always some kind of chatter going on, lots of helpful people. They do a bit of everything, some are really into pvp, some are focused on getting leveled and into catacylsm end content. It seems there are a few people with new mains, or mains in training, or alts, so we're all just kind of leveling. There are some higher levels who are always willing to run groups through dungeons. Its a great atmosphere so far.
My main is in a family guild, its just my best friend and her mom, and me.. maybe another friend of ours.. and our army of alts. She got the guild from someone who was giving it away, so we use it for the bank space and use of all the professions we've got access to.
Jan 20th 2011 3:50PM I'm not sure if this has been covered before, but is there a way to track achievements outside the game. For example, I know the armory makes mentions of parts of achievements that the character has completed, but does it also make available the overall lists of achievements and designate which ones/parts of ones have been completed?
