Arcane Brilliance: The state of the frost mage {WoW}

Aug 8th 2011 8:23AM Just a small correction: "And because you're at the soft crit cap, you know every instant FFB you hurl will crit. " is incorrect because once you have the 4T12 bonus FFB procs much more often than FoF so the optimal way to use those procs is fire them off as soon as they come up, even if you don't have an FoF proc up at the time. Pre-bonus you want to use your instant FFBs with FoF but not once you have it.

Blood Sport: Finding your PVP playstyle in arena {WoW}

Jul 19th 2011 7:12PM I just want to say I really enjoy your articles - and I have no interest at all in PVP. I've done enough BGs to get the easier achievements because I love my nerd points, but I have never stepped foot into arena or done any PVP outside of those achievements and I don't have any plans to do so anytime soon. PVE and raiding is my main love and the reason why I play this game.

But for whatever reason, I like reading your articles. I think its because its such a different mindset and approach to WoW for PVP than PVE, and even though I don't have any interest in doing it personally its fun to read about the strategy and thought-process involved.

Arcane Brilliance: Do mages need to be hit-capped? {WoW}

May 30th 2011 12:53PM re: Scuac

CodyBolt already covered #1, as CS cannot miss even now.

I think you may need some basic statistics in order to correct your flawed thinking for #2. 1% chance to miss DOES mean that you will, ON AVERAGE, miss 1 out of every 100 spells. Obviously you could miss 5 in a row. And just as obviously, you could hit on 500 spells in a row too. RNG is RNG, but the numbers will always work out to 99/100 in the long run. That's how math works.

Arcane Brilliance: Do mages need to be hit-capped? {WoW}

May 29th 2011 8:48AM Others have already pointed it out, but you absolutely do not need to cap hit as a raiding mage. The complicated math, as the article claims, in fact backs this up. It is an important stat, the most important secondary stat, but it does fall short of Int. You don't often have the choices of Int versus Hit unless you are talking about trinkets or an enchant or two, but when you have those choices Int is the way to go. If you are 50 short of the hit cap the solution is not to switch your Int bracer enchant to hit.

Officers' Quarters: Firelands will not save your guild {WoW}

May 24th 2011 8:12AM They don't need to implement a buff because the availability of current VP gear for JPs along with access to T12 gear will do that for them; the better geared people can be, especially those who pug or on alts, the easier the T11 content is.

Arcane Brilliance: Perfecting the fire tree {WoW}

Apr 10th 2011 12:39PM People all too often exaggerate how RNG Fire's dps is and I'm disappointed to see this article continuing that same line of thought.

Combustion comes up to 5-8% of our damage on most fights (ie. not fights where we use it and spread it to adds). A bad streak of crits obviously affects that, but hitting a sub-optimal combustion because you haven't been getting a good enough ignite is not going to tank your dps. Clearly there can be a couple thousand dps swing if things line up well, but if you are going from 20k dps to 14k dps its not RNG, you are doing something wrong.
