Dec 17th 2010 5:35PM I think the jump from "obsessive about WoW to the point of being a bit of a jerk" to "keep an eye on him 'cause he might be abusing his wife" is too much. Over and over there have been columns on this website about how even if people are nice and loving IRL they can get too caught up in the game's more negative social traditions, including acting elitist, pushing too hard to get what they want out of the game, etc. This guy quit the game once (probably stressed from too much playing), and his family, whom he plays with, asked him to come back to play with him, and he's considered a manipulator who should be watched for spousal abuse?
Now, don't get me wrong, there are manipulative people out there, and those who threaten to gquit constantly for attention and praise. But quitting once does not make this guy That Guy. Wanting to progress and not knowing how to motivate your guild does not make him That Guy. Not enjoying healing when healers all over the game are switching to other specs does not make him That Guy. And not being fun to group with does not make him a spousal abuser.

Dec 13th 2010 2:48PM Again, fishing and cooking, etc will still benefit the guild from an item perspective (the new fish feast can only be obtained through fishing up 50k fish from pools). The only change here is that otherwise meaningless achievements that would've levelled the guild faster (low level dungeons in guild groups, old raid achievements, getting exalted with factions across the guild) are now, well...meaningless.
Dec 13th 2010 2:44PM Almost all of the item guild rewards are from achievements instead of speed of levelling. With the (I believe) sole exceptions of the level 25 guild mount (which I think you have to be exalted to get?) and the next guild vault voucher, there is no difference in the speed at which small guilds could obtain them before, and what they can get now.
Examples: fish feasts (from fishing x number of fish), guild page (from killing x horde), the dark phoenix (raid achievements), the armadillo pet (killing 50k critters), etc.
I'm afraid that the guild lions/scorpions would've been a dime a dozen the day the guild rep cap can be hit, and will now be a dime a dozen the day guild level 25 can be hit, all across the servers.
Dec 13th 2010 2:35PM Oh, and as far as traps breaking already trapped mobs, it's not difficult to just drop the trap close to the mob instead of on it (between it and you). When your trap breaks, it just hits the next trap.
Dec 13th 2010 2:31PM The CC is wonderful and I have yet to be in a heroic where I'm not both running a CC and top dps (or only a few hundred dps behind). Camouflage has been excellent for frequent trapping, and in a solid pug with good CC trash mobs are plentiful and die quickly, which makes me wonder why this "heroics" spec chooses both stamina and over-80% crit increase, which is only useful for tiny parts of any fight, over trap resistance reduction (Survival Instincts), increased crit on trapped targets (Point of No Escape) and the huge boost to aspects of One With Nature in the BM tree.
If you're standing in stuff on the ground, it's likely that you will die regardless of how much stamina you have (I wouldn't want my healers wasting precious mana on someone who is), if you aren't standing in stuff you don't need the stamina, and if you aren't using your traps like crazy (relying on Black Arrow for trash) you're not playing Survival very well.
Dec 13th 2010 2:14PM I couldn't agree more. Before this change, my guild had planned out different achievements to get to help the guild go forward as quickly as possible. This had the added benefit of forcing those of us who have been grinding like crazy since 12:01 on the 7th to take a break from heroics and run something mindless and easy.
Now I doubt we'll even make the effort to get that last warglaive we need.
