Apr 28th 2009 2:43PM I found your blog post via a Twitter search for "Arlen Specter" and I find it incredibly troubling.
Senator Specter is absolutely correct in that the Republican party has moved away from him as time has moved on. There remain very few moderate Republicans (and not many more moderate Democrats) and their absence is bad for all of us.
The primary challenge that Rep. Toomey from the right was going to be rough but Sen. Specter was still the favorite to win in most polls. There are three possible results here. The first is Rep. Toomey defeats Sen. Specter which almost assures a Democrat's victory in the general election. Pennsylvania is moving to the left and a far right candidate like Rep. Toomey has next to no chance in the general population. The second result is that Specter wins, but barely. The weakened Sen. Specter enters a general election beaten to a pulp in the primary, the right stays home on election day and the Democrat wins in the general election because the DSCC has dumped millions of dollars into he state in order to elect what is likely going to be a moderate Democrat (because they're slightly less foolish than the NRSC but only slightly). The third result is Sen. Specter eeks out a win in both the primary and general and wins his seat. All but the last result is bad for the Republican Party and to suggest otherwise is foolish.
Yes, in theory Rep. Toomey could beat Specter and in theory could win in the general election however this is highly unlikely for the same reasons it's highly unlikely that Rep. Toomey would be able to beat Sen. Specter in the general election. It's Joe Lieberman in Connecticut in reverse.
The country doesn't need more far-right or far-left politicans like Rep. Toomey, it needs more moderate politicians like Sen. Specter. In my mind this is probably the most principled move that the Senator could make.
Feb 5th 2009 3:07PM I'm currently unemployed. I chose a horrible time to graduate from college. I've kept my wow subscription. It's pretty much the only thing I haven't cut out. I still have netflix but I'm likely to cancel that soon too. WoW is cheap and gives me something to do with all my time.
It also gives me an alternative when friends go out to do things that cost money. It's pretty terrible being the guy at the bar that is just getting water all night. This way I have something to do when I don't go.
Dec 18th 2008 2:37PM Totally agree. I play a prot pally and my second spec is going to be holly.
I think that the tank shortage wasn't fixed with dks only helped. I think the real success is how much fun prot is now for pallys and warriors.
Dec 10th 2008 5:22PM I'm not accusing QQ but this article screams of unnecessary whining. No... I am, I'm just going to be more constructive about it.
I really like the JC system as is. It creates a demand for cuts. Not every JC is going to have every cut, but you can get the cuts you want pretty easily. I'm a Prot Paladin and I have the Blue stam cut, the blue stam/def cut and my next goal is the blue defense cut. I'm focusing on what I and my guild needs. Am I getting everything? No. Do I need to? Absolutely not. I also picked up the +hit pattern. Due to the scarcaty created by this pattern system it gives real values to cuts. I have made a decent amount of money on +16 Hit gems because not every JC has it (although it's probably one of the more common ones due to it's high demand).
I think the system is fanastic. If you're a completetionist I'm sorry, it probably does suck. Then again it probably took you 17o days to farm a stupid BoE pattern in BC.
Dec 9th 2008 2:27PM It should be noted that minning is a source of three eternals:
Crystallized Earth - Saronite and Cobalt
Crystallized Water- Cobalt
Crystallized Shadow - Saronite
All of these are likely to be cheap on the AH and may not be worth farming.
Crystallized Fire (along with the three above) can also be mined from titanium but that is itself rare and not a good source of Crystallized Fire.
Dec 9th 2008 1:10PM 11 point talent in the Prot Paladin Tree. Hell, how about an 11 pointer in the holy tree that is useful for Prot and Ret.
Dec 9th 2008 8:52AM My guess for the "hard mode" achievement rewards: 8 piece set pieces, belt bracers and a ring. Nothing amazing, but if you can keep your 4 piece bonus longer into the next tier totally worth it (unless your 4 piece bonus sucks).
My rational for this was the inclusion of 3 more pieces for Tier 6 that were found in Sunwell. Also Tier 4 already has 8 pieces they just have to recolor them.
Nov 13th 2008 12:51PM I would like 60 free days!
Nov 12th 2008 12:55PM After all this downtime I could use some free gametime!
