Minicraft 2 in the works and needs a better name, Notch reveals {Joystiq}

Dec 27th 2011 5:40AM @kmeisthax Yeah, but I was an idiot and didn't focus on what I read.

Thought this was about MINEcraft 2 and not MINIcraft 2.

If there will ever be Minecraft 2, I'm hoping it they take a look at Terraria. So many mechanics in it work so much better and the content is way more interesting.

Making all that work in 3D is a ridiculous task and would probably take years even from a big studio, but they could at least learn something from it, because exploration in Minecraft gets dull very quickly.

Redstone is still awesome.

@Viiral Which is weird, considering the fact Java will always be slower than C++. Switching between so similar languages is very simple and there's no doubt Notch couldn't easily do it.

Minicraft 2 in the works and needs a better name, Notch reveals {Joystiq}

Dec 27th 2011 1:12AM Great.

Hopefully this will be built with extensibility and modding in mind and doesn't use Java.

Wouldn't hurt to have more vanilla content either. While it's not possible to compete with Terraria in a 3D game, Mojang could learn a lot from it.

Crysis 2 DirectX 11 update coming June 27, some users already have it {Joystiq}

Jun 23rd 2011 5:30AM @Dick Socrates Let me guess, you don't have capable hardware? I'm pretty sure it's a huge boost in graphics if they really utilize DX11 features.

But that doesn't change the fact that this game is way worse than Crysis 1 in just about every possible aspect. I think it's the first time I've got a new game, that feels older than it's predecessor.

It's not just the graphics, but just about all the features and gameplay.

The first part had one playable multiplayer gamemode, where I had pretty epic battles with all the vehicles in big maps, almost felt like Battlefield. The "successor" felt like COD, except the maps were even smaller.

Crysis 1 was a good game, not great, but good. Crysis 2 is a piece of crap and while it's nice that developers release something new, this should have been included in the game when it was launched and doesn't change the fact that the game is a piece of crap.

Duels of the Planeswalkers 2012 review: All decked out {Joystiq}

Jun 15th 2011 8:37AM @Xoonaka Magic Online is just that. Insane amount of cards and there's some really cool deck building tools. There's modes that limit which cards you can use, but there's also modes that allow you to use even the very old cards and create silly combos.

The only problem is that it's so expensive to be competitive at it, just like in the real MTG.

I've spent too much money on it, but I believe 50% of the fun in MTG comes from planning, building and optimizing your deck. It's great to figure out crazy synergies between cards and try them.

Duels is just a bunch of dull, pre-made decks.

THQ places Amnesia: The Dark Descent in a retail box {Joystiq}

Feb 16th 2011 9:06AM No.

It would have been better if it only featured a dark corridor and a latern emitting just a bit of light. Or even a black box with the game's name!

Why would they insult this game with such horrible box art?

Battlefield 3 info onslaught begins with Game Informer cover {Joystiq}

Feb 3rd 2011 11:59PM I'm waiting this with very mixed feelings.

I think Battlefield 2 is probably the best multiplayer FPS that exists. The commanding and squad system was perfect, the vehicles were perfect and the game kept a really good balance between arcade and sim. However, it's been showing it's age for a long time and I've been waiting for replacement.

So I couldn't wait any longer for some new Battlefield action and I bought Bad Company 2. It's in no means a bad game, but sadly it's a huge step backwards, in every other aspect than graphics. I can't believe they didn't reach the level of their 5 year older game.

I blame consoles for it, since the real money lies there. Consoles are a closed, very limited platform, where you can sell overpriced, generic crap to masses and they love it.

Now Battlefield 3 has extremely huge potential to step back in right track, but I'm afraid it will be a console game. No matter how hard they say the "PC version gets special treatment." they will probably still focus on consoles.

In theory it's possible to create a game for PC and consoles, where both versions are taken to the max and fully use the features and possibilities of their platforms. However, that never happens. The focus goes to the platform with bigger profits.

If the PC version was properly built, it could easily feature 2-4 times bigger maps than Battlefield 2, something like 128 player matches, proper modding tools etc. We have so much faster internet connections and PCs than 6 years ago. However, I know it would require lots of development just for the PC version and I don't think it's going to happen as long as consoles are included in the platforms.

Mad Catz to produce Gears of War 3 accessories for Xbox 360 {Joystiq}

Jan 28th 2011 3:26AM I don't even have XBOX 360, but I hope they focus on quality products.

Pretty much everything from Mad Catz has been cheap plastic toys with gaming stickers, but they proved that they can create quality products with R.A.T 7 and R.A.T 9.

If they keep that direction, they could get in line with Razer, Steel Series and Logitech gaming peripherals. Razer is releasing Onza soon and it's about the only high quality controller for consoles (at least the tournament version) and Mad Catz could easily give them some competition and prove themselves.

Gran Turismo 5 loading times slashed with SSD install {Joystiq}

Dec 14th 2010 7:47AM I actually wished my PS3 had SSD when I launched GT5 for the first time.

I tried to play the licence tests, but couldn't play more than a few. One test takes like 10 seconds of driving, then you wait for some menu animations and after that you wait over half a minute for the next one to load.

There's something wrong when you spend most of your time staring at a loading screen.

I'm still confused, how can loading one track take almost 30 seconds even on SSD? Sure the tracks are big and detailed, but not _that_ detailed.

I'm more of a PC gamer myself and games like GRID load the track in a few seconds on 7200RPM HDD. Would image it's almost instant with SSD.

Cataclysm 101: A guide to PvP changes and challenges {WoW}

Dec 7th 2010 3:37AM Will the PVP titles be exactly the same as the old ones?

I'm a very casual player and I'm kind of proud of my First Sergeant title, even tho it was really easy to get. It's pretty much only thing I got that's something not everyone have and I've thought the titles still exists as a reward for being in wow from the start.

If the new titles will be the same, there's pretty much nothing the old players can "show off" (No, I'm not counting feats). Only think I can think of is the old mounts (white raptor etc.), but I was stupid and changed it into a "cool new armored mount". Can only blame myself, but still I feel that this title change is taking something away from me.
