Dec 17th 2010 2:30AM Like someone else said before me, this article has contained some of the very best commentary I've seen on healing since Cataclysm launched. I've been disappointed with the lack of priest healing articles lately. Wherefore art thou, Dawn? :( But seriously, I've read all 11 pages of comments here and honestly I think I learned a thing or two.
And just to throw my 2 cents in, I really do like the new model for healing. It took some time to get used to actual triage and having to pay attention to my mana consumption, but I've gotten it down now I think. I started healing back in wrath because I wanted the satisfaction of knowing I kept the group alive and running. Now at the end of every boss fight, not only do I have that, but I feel the satisfaction of teamwork and I feel like I really exhibited some skill. It makes me very happy just to see everyone still alive at the end of the fight, even if just by the skin of their teeth. Healers used to be the stars, but now we've been taken down a notch. We can no longer expend endless mana to compensate for other players' mistakes or even our own. I have to let myself be not-topped-off, and be ok with it. We actually have to be part of the team to make it through, and ultimately that's how it should be.
Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but I have been frustrated with one aspect of healing. I play a disc priest, and Heal just seems undertuned. Heal is supposed to be our go-to spell now and it heals for so little for the time it takes to cast. It needs either a 0.5 second lower cast time, or to heal for 2-3k more on average, imo. Also, PW: Shield, which is a staple of disc healing, seems a bit too mana expensive. I almost always use Inner Focus now, instead of Inner Fire, for the 15% mana cost reduction on instant cast spells, mainly PW:S, since I rely on it so much. As far as stats go, I have been stacking crit and mastery about equally, and ignoring haste and spirit. Is that wrong?
