Feb 5th 2012 5:04PM With the separation of feral Druids into guardian and feral DPS, why not make a shockadin spec for pallies. They've broken the 3 spec equality in practice as well as theory with the Druid shift, why not here?
Jan 13th 2012 6:46PM @DarkWalker: Agreed about sharing gear between roles. I have a DK Tank that I just don't enjoy much, so I was going to switch him to DPS. Switching late in expansions--which is typically when you might want people to switch roles and try something different--is more and more difficult.
I've found I either need to DPS in my tank gear and get yelled at or do the thing I don't want (Tanking) to get some DPS gear. There are limited amount of crafted gear I can purchase, but it's all pretty low level, sticking me back at the very beginning of the instance gearing cycle.
Of course, I at least have the option of DPSing in Tank gear. But a DPS trying to tank in DPS gear will get absolutely killed--both by mobs and their fellow players.
Note to the Editors: Maybe we could get a series of columns on how to transition from one role to another. Gearing, buttons you hit, things to watch for you might not have known about in an encounter, etc.
Dec 10th 2011 9:30AM I did the cannon in one try on my first trip into the faire with my main. I got an achievement and everything and was like, "That's odd. That wasn't very hard. Why was there an achievement?"
Then I came back on my other alts and had to use the cannon 2-3 times each. And then some more for good measure to get that easy achievement. Also the day after. Then I thought, "Oh. That's why there's an achievement!"
Nov 14th 2011 9:41AM Maybe you could hit any boss in any order, and which order you choose unlocks different loot drops. Or it drops some cool-looking transmog-only gear. It would have to be structured such that one route isn't inherently much slower than another, or everyone will just default to the old style of blazing through the fastest route possible. While I like the illusion of choice that something like Grim Batol provides in that it feels like a real place, why not give actual choice in the dungeons?
Nov 14th 2011 9:31AM I want a new formula for 5-mans that isn't "kill the end boss, plus a few others along the way."
I'd like a form of Tower Defense as a 5-man. There are no bosses, just "trash" in endless waves. Basically, you zone in and start the encounter when you're ready. Trash starts coming in, much like Violet Hold, but in random groups of 2-3 from a total of maybe 10 different mobs. Each successive wave comes a little bit sooner and gradually more mobs join each spawn. Eventually, the trash overwhelms your group.
Your group is awarded loot based on how long you last. X VPs/minute + 1 drop/5 minutes. Maybe the loot iLevel increases with time as well. It starts at 359 and goes up half a tier every time you earn a drop.
With no clear "win" objective, however, it could feel wrong/incomplete. Maybe it's billed as a training exercise and when the last group member dies, the NPCs zone in and resurrect everyone, then distribute the loot based on progress.
Nov 1st 2011 8:54AM Actually, I think Jason wrote the article over a month ago during the last call for submissions, before the information from Blizzcon was available. I have that on good authority as Jason and I are somewhat close.
Oct 17th 2011 10:15PM @Daedalus: You know that Pyrite Ore will still be profitable, right? Maybe not obscenely so like we had hoped, but still a profit.
Aug 5th 2011 11:22AM Now that Wow.com is in the process of shutting down, can we admit the idea was dumb and return it to WoW Insider? Please?
Jun 13th 2011 4:48PM Question:
WoW continues to have a higher and higher barrier of entry as the max level gets higher. Cataclysm did a great job revamping the 1-60 story. There will continually be a problem getting people to max level if old zones need to be updated every 3rd expansion. What are the chances we see the next expansion include an all new (not revamped) 61-80, so the progression would be Cataclysm for 60 levels, new expansion for 20, Cata for 5, new for 5?
This gives two products that need to be purchased in order to catch up instead of 4 with the new expansion. BC and LK could be moved to some sort of "Caverns of Time" quest line that sends people there to visit past events, keeping the content essentially unchanged.
