Mar 28th 2011 5:55PM I have found more than ever it is important to have a dedicated recruitment officer - someone who will scour the looking for guild posts daily to find that special someone that can fill the gap in your roster, create a level one toon to talk with cross server people (or do the first quest to send in game mail), and stay on top of applications.
Recruiting today is very different than in past expansions. Rather than applicants seeking out top guilds and submitting an application with the dim hope of getting in, today, guilds are aggressively going after what seems to be like a limited supply of players. As a recruiter, it's important to be creative and agressive (although not so aggressive as to scare the player off.) For better or worse, the power has shifted to the applicant as opposed to being in the hands of guilds. For instance, I recently saw a Resto Shaman on the forums who was 11/12 normal that had over 40 posts from guilds with progress as high as 10/13 HM! Some of these guilds offered perks that one would never have seen in the past, such as paid transfers and 100k WoW gold for applicants making it past the trial period.
While this might leave you to wonder "how can my guild compete with that!" I've found that not everyone is looking for the same thing. Every guild has its own unique flavor. Showcase that flavor and remain persistant and you will find the members you're looking for.
