Addon Spotlight: GTFO with GTFO {WoW}

Jun 2nd 2011 2:52PM If you are in a heroic dungeon and only doing 6-8k damage, having some accountability is really important.

There are more important things than the DPS meter, but it's great for identifying a DPS problem that needs to be solved.

I had the misfortune of playing with a priest who queued as DPS and spent the first part of our encounter acting as a second healer because he was not paying attention. Took us a while to figure out why we were not downing the boss... untill the tank opened up her DPS meter.

Addon Spotlight: GTFO with GTFO {WoW}

Jun 2nd 2011 2:48PM GTFO is an amazing addon. As a rogue, who is often standing directly behind/under a giant boss with little to no visibility, this is a a life saver. Also helps identify friendly and unfriendly pools on the ground.

Especially if it's a new fight and you don't know if the reason your health bar is dropping is because of direct damage, an AoE, a bleed, a debuff, or some fire you may be standing in.

This addon has also helped me discover that many AoE casts effect areas other than what is indicated by the visible "fire." IE: Dragonhawk boss's flame breath that also does damage behind him, even though it's supposedly a frontal blast.

Jun 1st 2011 2:37PM @aaronmhayes The problem is not our PvP damage. That is fine. The problem is our Raid and Dungeon damage, due to fight mechanics and imbalance with other classes in that environment.

We should not have to trade our PvP CC (which is the only reason our lower level damage is acceptable still competitive in PvP) for Raid/Dungeon damage.

Encrypted Text: Rogues need to be number one {WoW}

Jun 1st 2011 2:32PM How fights are laid out is a big concern. Right now, ranged is king.

Rogues lack heavy armor and have to stand right on their target at all times. Sticking to the MOBs back does not always protect us from their abilities, especially if they have a small hit box. Good example would be the Dragonhawk boss in ZA. While his "Flame Breath" is listed as a frontal ability, it can still damage you if you are standing right behind the boss at close range. Being low-armor, prone to damage due to location, and low on a healer's priority list is not a good place to be. We have plenty of survivability tactics, but employing them is a huge reduction to both our DPS and our value to the team.

We also keep running into bosses that damage based on players proximity to each other. Given a boss with a small hit box (and if we are doing our job properly) we are very close to the tank. Ranged has the luxury of being able to spread out.

Many fight mechanics now also call for switching targets frequently. (leaving the boss to hit the white eagle after it swoops up a party member, chasing after adds, switching between bosses in on Omnotron Defense System, running for cover from Lightning Storm, etc.)

In all these cases, ranged wins. But it does not stop there... while we are punished by our positioning requirements, they are constantly rewarded by nice buffs, heals, shields, etc. Water Totems that heal and grant mana, Power Generator puddles that grant 50% extra damage and grant mana, AoE heals, etc. The tank's job is to keep a MOB away from these tasty treats, which means they are out of our reach.

Now I don't think we should be #1 in DPS... I actually think no class should be #1... we should all have the potential of being top DPS based on skill and gear.

I don't care if I'm not the shining star of the DPS meter, I just want a chance to play my class to its fullest potential... and right now that potential is crippled.

If I'm not doing well in the DPS department, my lack of skill, knowledge of the fight, knowledge of my class, or gear should be to blame... Poor DPS is something that should be improved upon by research, hard work, and dedication.

May 18th 2011 2:48PM Looking forward to getting a set of this gear. Though I can't say I am overly thrilled about the brown and teal color scheme. Something closer to the fire theme (red/orange/purple) would look a lot better than teal.

May 17th 2011 4:47PM What map addon do people recommend? I'd like to have a nice, clean, square map with a good level of customization.

I've seen a lot of people use "SexyMap" in the past, but it has not been updated in a long time. Its page of the Curse site is full of people complaining about conflicts with 4.1.

May 10th 2011 9:09PM If you select the red "?" icon, the icon state will update to what ever ability the macro will trigger. So when alt is pressed down, the icon would be that of Slice and Dice, otherwise, it would show Rupture's icon.

I like your macro logic. I so the same thing for my rogue.
