Know Your Lore: Lore 101 -- How to fold a Tinfoil Hat {WoW}

Jul 24th 2011 10:24PM I kinda agree with Amaxe here. Although some of the unanswered elements of WoW lore were put there as precursors many elements are added without considering the wider arc. They exist more as potential instead of a beginning.

Also writers often include things that have unintended references or effects that gain a meaning the original writer never realized. For example you mentioned how you would dissect Alice in Wonderland, linking what he wrote with what it referenced. Although some of those references were certainly intended I believe that many of them were placed by Carrol superficially and it required his readers to find their true meaning.

Know Your Lore: Lore 101 -- How to fold a Tinfoil Hat {WoW}

Jul 24th 2011 10:17PM Way back in the day conspiracy theorists believed that either Aliens or the government were to trying to read or control their minds with electromagnetic waves. They believed they could block theses rays with hats made our of tin or aluminum foil.

Now some speculation theories on WoW lore are similar to real world conspiracy theories in the sense that people believe secret motives are happening behind the scenes. When people make these claims about WoW lore they jokingly compare themselves to the tinfoil hat wearers who believed there was also some kind of conspiracy afoot.

Typically in this context the term is used when you speculate about something without anyway to verify the speculation and often, but not always, the speculation is describes something radically different then the current status quo.

All the World's a Stage: Plot points for draenei roleplayers {WoW}

Jul 24th 2011 4:41PM Is it known how many different worlds the Draenei have visited or settled before they came to Draenor?

Also, who knows how many different races the Draenei have encountered. Maybe the Draenei have been in dozens of Alliance like organizations before coming to Azeroth.

Jul 24th 2011 1:27PM Reader's Comments. This is mainly because as a general rule the Queue usually won't have questions that can only be answered by pure speculation but in the comments any question, thought, or idea can be discussed and dissected.

Plus the comments section tends to have some incredibly witty responses.

Jul 24th 2011 1:23PM I always felt that it was weird that there were enough high elves to form a faction. I remember reading somewhere on the old WoW site that although High Elves still existed they were very, very, rare.

This was because being a High Elf wasn't just disliking Blood elf politics, it involved finding ways to cope with your magical addiction without using arcane torrent, fel crystals, or Mu'ru/sunwell. This explains why their eyes aren't green but to survive magical addiction without these aids was incredibly difficult for most.

I don't mind finding a few High Elf NPCs in the world but having an entire faction of them feels like it dilutes the amount of influence and presence Blood Elves have.

Jul 24th 2011 1:13PM I was recently thinking about the fact that sentient races the Scourge has turned undead have the ability to to break away from the Scourge and regain their willpower, like the Forsaken.

Frost Wyrms were formerly dragons, which are one of, if not the most, intelligent sentient race. Do you think any Frost Wyrms broke of from the Scourge similar to the Forsaken? Are the Frost Wyrm mounts players receive from Icecrown achievements these freed Frost Wyrms? Do you think Blizz will implement a forsaken undead dragon faction?

I've always like to imagine a new undead dragonblight whose Aspect would be based around controlling and monitoring the powers of undeath and unholy. Plus the aspect would have an awesome Forsaken humanoid form.

This can only really be speculated on so what do fellow queue readers think of this?

A while back it was mentioned on the Queue that Joystiq is working on overhauling the comment system and that would in turn affect WoW Insider. Have there been any updates on this front?

The Queue: Super-Soldier-sized edition {WoW}

Jul 22nd 2011 11:44AM That's a theme for every goblin settlement.

Depending on where the goblin settlement is located will determine what is printed on their wallpaper. For example Everlook in Winterspring has similar wall paper but I believe it features penguins instead of pineapples.

Jul 22nd 2011 11:30AM Although they're probably taking that into consideration I think it's too early to draw conclusions about 4.3 since we have yet to get any info on it yet.
