Mar 9th 2012 5:10PM City of Heroes started their Veteran Reward system back years and years ago. It kept me as a loyal subscriber even when I wasn't actively playing. A few months back they went Free to Play and dropped the Rewards program. Since I hadn't been playing for a couple of months and had only been keeping my subscription active for the Rewards, I promptly quit paying.
Lesson learned? Reward programs can keep money flowing even if the person isn't actively playing.

Nov 17th 2011 4:43PM @Brett Porter is correct. Auctioneer will tell you what items will disenchant into and the approximate drop rates in the item tooltip.
Nov 11th 2011 2:57PM I play on the same server as Basil as well as a lesser server and I can consistently make 300 to 1k Gold per day with only about 30 minutes of work.
As others have said, find niche markets. There are tons of them. Running older dungeons for fun and profit. Perhaps reselling pets can net you a few hundred gold a day. Maybe it's potions. Perhaps bags are your bag. Or failing all of that, there is always buy low and sell high. Maybe it is a combination. There is always something that makes more gold than you invest.
Dip your toe in the water and give it a try with a hundred gold or so. Once you get your feet wet and find something that works, you have to be aggressive. Others will try to drive you out of the space. I liken it to the last scene from "Trading Places" where Winthrop is telling Billy Ray about the trading floor. Tenacity in the Auction House can be a virtue. Or is can be a death blow. Know when to bow out of the market. If you suffer consistent losses on Saturdays, quit trading on Saturdays. If you keep getting undercut below your margins (and you absolutely must know what your margins are), then back off, sell short and find a different niche.
It's really not that hard. It just takes time. If I can compete with Basil, you can compete with anyone.
Oct 10th 2011 7:10PM After finding a market, like Fox says, know when to post. Posting times can be key to controlling the market and forcing other players out.
When testing a market, don't get in too deep too soon. Sometimes major players take a few days break due to RL and can come back with a vengeance when they find an usurper in their midst.
Even if you are a major player in a given market, getting in too deep can land you in the hole fast. If there is a good deal on a given item grab it. But if you already have a stockpile that is more than a week or so of sales, you might want to take a pass depending on how much of a deal it really is.
Lastly, know when to bow out. Trying to control a volatile market where everyone is a shark is just asking for trouble usually. Look for a different spot where the players are fewer. You might not make quite as much gold as fast, but it might be worth not taking the huge risk of fighting the sharks.
Sep 16th 2011 4:45PM TSM is the one addon that has allowed me to average ~800G a day with less than thirty minutes of work. I buy mats cheap, make them into goods and inflate the price. If I can't push the other folks out of the market by undercutting, I move on to a different market.
Thanks Basil for showing me how to compete with you on Drenden. ;)
