Jan 31st 2012 6:18PM The problem is that two opposite pieces of gear become bis for different class specs. One example for mages is the T13 hand vs the valor hand. T13 gives hit/mastery and is better for arcane but rubbish for fire, while the valor gives hit/crit which is great for fire but sub-optimal for arcane.
Unfortunately when the fire mage just can't win the tier head piece he has to make do with the lesser hand piece, which is where reforging comes into play. I'm sure there are plenty of examples of garbage itemization, but it's not always due to lazy developers.
Jan 31st 2012 2:53PM Once I relized that Rawr was telling me to reforge (something like) 63 haste to crit and regem 60 crit to haste, I stopped reforging my avengers ring. (250+ gold for 3 crit? yeah, ok, I'll get right on that...)

That reminds me of my own paladin. A RL friend of mine convinced me to join his guild and pally heal for their t11 team. Unfortunately I was a new player, just started shortly after Cata released, so I really had no idea what I was doing or what I wanted to play or even how to gear. I got my paladin up to 85 questing in prot spec. I finally started doing dungeons as dps, but because I was in prot spec, well my dps was pretty bad. A few nice players offered advice, but I didn't understand what a difference (a practiced) spec makes.
I eventually got in one dungeon, a normal mode Lost City where the tank went off on me for my lousy dps. I switched to my ret spec which was even worse dps because I wasn't comfortable with it, wasn't geared for it, etc. I got vote kicked, which burned me bad enough that I didn't play her at all for about 6 months.
After piddling around on my warlock I made a mage which is now my main. Of course now I realize I should have bit back, it was a normal mode dungeon which didn't even matter back then.
Eheh, maybe there's another breakfast topic if it hasn't been done yet: "I was a baddie"
Jan 26th 2012 11:12AM I wish they'd retool light well. Have it be a longer smart heal ala the light wells in Jaina's End Time or the priest t12 proc. It's /almost/ a wasted spec point right now, but none of the options I'd put that point in are quite as good as a 3 minute heal that I can use even if no one else does. (1% haste, the 30% self heal, or a slight PW:S buff)
Jan 26th 2012 10:01AM I had a good one last night. Basically a 5 pug group in vortex pinnacle, my fire mage. Pretty okay group but my mage is geared enough to start ds heroics so he's just blowing away their dps. We got to the last tol'vir pack before asaad, the one you have to los to pull them out of the triangle. Well, they didn't get los'd. Skull on the single healer. I was able to sheep one of the lightning casters but it was immediately broken by aoe. The group healer and I are standing in the pyramid but suddenly I've got agro, the tank went down. I pop clones and blink out of the pyramid but everything is untargetable. Another DPS goes down, the warrior I think. Fortunately the healer mob runs out and starts healing. I nuke it down. The group healer and the other dps is able to hold agro while we start tackling the mobs one at a time but eventaully they both go down. So it's just me and 2 tol'vir left, a caster and one of the melee. I'm about to die from lightning leash when the warror dps runs back and gets agro on the melee. I'm able to interrupt and dps the caster down, and the two of us get the melee.
It was a pretty disasterous pull, but a heckuvalotta fun

I see your point, but it's difficult for me to really agree. The what 20 (?) other DPS specs don't have a go-to for number 1 DPS. Is it fair to want Hunters to be stronger? Sure, but that doesn't mean the class is broken like some people would suggest. Maybe Hunters are fine, but everyone else needs to be reigned in a little?
Melee got a pretty significant AP boost as I remember (I loathe playing melee, so I didn't really pay a lot of attention TBH).
Personally I like the idea of and playing a glass cannon. Ranged, including hunters even, should be top of the heap. If we got to wear plate and parry attacks or whatever, then I could see melee being competitive with ranged DPS wise. But otherwise, what is the point of playing a clothie when I can get the mitigation advantages that, say, a ret paladin get and be the best DPS besides.
That said, Blink is still the best spell in the game...

Do you feel better about yourself calling people names?
My point was Fire was BROKEN. Unplayable except for the masochist. Hunters aren't broken. The problem is that some people look at where caster DPS is right now and think their character is gimp. I think that's wrong from a developer point of view, since Dragonwrath skews the data in a very obvious way. And I think that's wrong from a player point of view, where some players are just flat out better than others.
My fire mage was getting trounced by a lesser geared ret pally in some 5-mans a couple days ago. Is fire still gimp? No, the pally was just a better player than me and rather than QQ I just mashed my keyboard harder.
Jan 4th 2012 9:45AM I guess I should add that I understand that dealing damage also heals, but as long as the monk is going to have direct healing too, then the expectation is that they would use them.
And now I'm thinking of Baeleroc too where healing goes to specific targets at specific times. I trust that Blizzard will have it mostly figured out, but I like how my priest plays and if they try to force me to dps-heal then I certainly won't be healing any more.
Jan 4th 2012 9:36AM Since I don't play a disc priest, I don't know for reals (yo), but isn't smite healing pretty terrible in end game raids? I know disc itself is strong as ever but I never see atonement/smite used outside of 5-mans and rarely at that.
Personally, as a raid capable holy priest, anything that takes my eye off the party, like, say dpsing, always results in people getting dangerously low on health. So the only way i see active healing working is if the healing is basically op to make up for the healer not really paying attention to people's health.
What I fear is that Blizzard designs raid encounters so that you must have healers dealing damage to clear the boss. Kind of like Ultraxion where the dps requirement is so tight that every little bit helps. I'd also hate to be a tank competiting against recount for the healer's attention.
Jan 4th 2012 9:19AM Isn't the point of Legendary weapons that they give an amazing boost to the people that have them? By definition all other dps should be lacking compared to those that have Dragonwrath and the Rogue Daggers. There's always going to be someone at the bottom of the DPS chart and buffing classes just because they can't compete with amazing gear is not a good way to continue.
It's one thing when a class is broken beyond usefulness (4.2 fire mage), but hunters aren't. At all. By any stretch.
