I'll don my own tinfoil hat for a moment here: in my opinion, we're too often seeing omniscience where there isn't.
What I mean is: it's possible that the Titans did not know what the threat would be. They empowered the aspects to prevent it, no matter what. So in my view there wasn't any plan or experiment; Deathwing was corrupted by the Old Gods and led their charge to destroy the world, so the other Aspects did their job and stopped him.
Luckily, we mortals were there to help.
From my own personal view, that'd make a more compelling story than a divine plan. The Aspects were the first line of defense, but we mortals are the element of surprise, the individuals who made the difference when an unforeseen enemy (our own protector, Neltharion!) tried to end us all. That, in the context of the game (where we have to matter, otherwise there's no point), is so much more awesome!
