A spoiler-free look at the Mists of Pandaria beta {WoW}

Apr 4th 2012 7:42PM my wife and i are using it as a playtest of the new system and content, to judge if it's worth staying with WoW once our annual passes are up(signed up right after blizzcon so we won't have to wait long past diablo dropping), as we're having a hard time agreeing with a lot of the system-at-large changes like raiding gear, some of the pvp stuff, etc.

it doesn't help that we'll also have new baby.

so beta=trying to make the game better/finding out if we want to keep going, for us.

Apr 4th 2012 7:39PM i already want to get all genocide-y on the night elves, so where exactly is the appeal in the book?

i guarantee, the next expansion after pandaria could be 'the triumph of varian wrynn' and the playerbase will refer to it as 'rise of the douche-king.'

PvP twinking for dummies {WoW}

Mar 29th 2012 11:51AM you know how i know you haven't been paying attention to any of the new expansion information?

Encrypted Text: The lazy combat build, part 2 {WoW}

Mar 28th 2012 6:49PM nah, this sort of info can applied to several classes(with class-based modifications). back when i was lern2frostdk i sat down and picked the brain of a good friend of mine who was highly competitively raiding at the time and rocking some amazing numbers.

at the end of it we compared output via three different meters across multiple dungeon runs. he, in his raid gear, and i, in my cobbled-together heroic/vp/jp/crafted gear, were really pretty close together. when he put together a kit to match me, we were within 5 percent. the difference between he and i? i was pushing two fewer buttons and had macro'd multiple cooldowns onto other abilities so they were getting triggered automatically as they came up.

i could look away and think from time to time. he had to occasionally remind himself to breathe, given the semi-frantic way he could get on a real roll.

that 5% added up to hell on wheels.

Mists of Pandaria Beta: New archaeology items {WoW}

Mar 27th 2012 5:52PM rant about blizzard drawing out the whole elder ones thing excessively, one thing i would like to see if the puzzle box of yogg-saron opening one of these days.

triggering a special event on the server it opens on, each server in turn as one opens.

you know, faceless ones attack, old god awakens, and hey wouldyalookitthat... a new raid instance! SCORE.

Mists of Pandaria Beta: New archaeology items {WoW}

Mar 27th 2012 5:49PM of COURSE they're going to drop another little tidbit or two about the titans, to keep everyone clamoring for either old gods or titans.

because, despite every indication and public statement that they're moving away from that stuff, they recognize just as we do that the old gods were the pinnacles of the game's raiding for a great many players, and that a large portion of the player base is just rabid for blizzard's take on lovecraftian material.

and so thusly we keep getting little teaser bits of old ones/old gods in our warcraft. it's entertaining but it's starting to feel a little... jordan-esque*.

*referencing the wheel of time, which was a drawn-out overly-milked turkey of a series that favored character non-development and emotional melodrama to plot advancement, and thusly is being finished by another author as the original writer has a very serious case of the not-alive.

Mists of Pandaria Beta: New archaeology items {WoW}

Mar 27th 2012 3:06PM try as hard as i can i can't get behind the new archaeology model and rewards.

whoo, we get to contribute to stuff? yay a few lines of text, maybe one little phased part in the museum in ironforge, and 50-100 gold.

yay.

now i don't expect every dig i start to reward something cool, but archaeology has felt like an even more asnine version of fishing, something for the obsessive-compulsive to do.

it'd be neat to see archaeology skills translate into effects usable in-combat. stacking buffs to one combat ability or another, or against various races even. or maybe a greater probability of scoring sweet random loot off members of the various races, as you're more familiar with their culture, etc.

but something, ANYTHING to be a more tangible reward than the bupkiss we have NOW.
