Scattered Shots: Hunter predictions for a new year {WoW}

Dec 29th 2011 1:38PM I would agree that BM is still underrepresented at the upper tiers in pvp, but otherwise its well-represented in the pvp community. In arena, BM jungle cleave is very popular this patch, and I've def seen KFC/PHD teams running with a BM hunter. The sheer amount of burst they bring to the table is impressive.

Scattered Shots: Scatter-trapping with grace and ease {WoW}

Nov 6th 2011 12:43AM Hello Basil,

I'd like to add a few pointers to your excellent intro article to scatter trapping. While prepping with trap launcher before you scatter is excellent foresight, I prefer to simply create a macro that takes care of my scatter-trapping sequence with one button.

#showtooltip Scatter Shot
/cast Scatter Shot
/castsequence reset=14 Trap Launcher

The above is a very simple macro that will activate your trap launcher when you scatter your target. This eliminates the need to worry about having to estimate timing if you decide to activate your launcher ahead of time. The actual macro I use for pvp is a bit more complicated and is as follows:

#showtooltip Scatter Shot
/petattack [@focus]
/cast [@focus] growl
/cancelaura Hand of Protection
/cancelaura Deterrence
/cast [mod:shift,@focus][@mouseover, harm][harm] Scatter Shot
/castsequence reset=14 Trap Launcher

Most of the time I use a scatter trap in arena/rbgs is targeted towards a focus target (as Basil pointed out, this is usually a healer), so my macro reflects this usage. What this macro does is have my pet growl off any possible grounding totems that the target might have (those pesky resto shamans), cancel any pally bubbles/deterrence I might have, stop any shots or spells I might be in the middle of casting (including steady shot), and allow for mouseover or focus target casting of the scatter shot. If you're worried about the pet attack disrupting your cc sequence, don't bother as long as you land your trap, it's fine. If you simply plan on using the scatter as a scatter, then simply recall your pet after using this macro.

A useful tip when scattering a target, which you're worried about getting dispelled (for example, if there is another healer in the area), then you can help "cover" your trap by placing a hunter's mark on the frozen target. When the frozen player is dispelled, hopefully the dispel will take off the hunter's mark instead of your frozen trap.

Scattered Shots: Improving hunter PVP {WoW}

Oct 20th 2011 4:41PM I think hunters do a respectable job of protecting the flag carrier in CTF (capture the flag) maps, but to be honest, there are other classes that are better for that than we are (locks for example). Other classes can continue spamming their CC (crowd control) abilities to disrupt the enemy attack and have better overall damage output. These days, at least for RBG ratings above 2k, I've found that more and more teams are utilizing less players for strictly defense and simply loading up on their offensive teams, keeping perhaps 2 healers on their FC (flag carrier) and sending the rest (including an offensive healer) on offense to kill the EFC (enemy flag carrier) or wipe the other team's offense. Then the teams will wait until the EFC has sufficient stacks of the flag carrying debuff before going in and nuking him/her.

When on offense I can't tell you how important it is to keep the next target of attack cleared of as many buffs as possible. Using a focus Tranq shot to keep peeling these buffs off while continuing to hit the current target is just priceless as a lot of healers won't notice it in the chaos of the fight. I believe the focus cost of tranq shot is a little too high, but is effective overall and as a marksman hunter, having the double rapid fires for burst and having the ability to add a ferocity pet buff is just an amazing tool for groups on offense.
