Apr 3rd 2012 7:10PM "Your worries and Rothschild's money: I'd love to have them both." That's what my grandma used to say whenever someone brought up a completely insignificant topic pretending it to be a world-turning cause.
While I agree chainmail lingerie is a nonsense, it's an integral part of "sword and sorcery" genre ever since original Conan stories. The reason behind it goes like this: a woman, even a badass woman (and gods know Howard DOES have some pretty badass women in his works), has to look good, otherwise there is no point writing her into the story in the first place. Possible exceptions: witches, evil queens, wise old women.
Of course, some female readers might complain about such a concept. Then again, how many females actually read sword and sorcery? And how many females read it regardless, or even BECAUSE of it? Most women probably know we're not doing this stuff on purpose, it is simply a part of our male chauvinist pig nature. And if you *were* a woman, instead of just playing a woman character, you'd know it as well.
I find it somewhat symptomatic it is a GUY who is writing such an article. Same story as always: a bored person devises an alleged "problem" happening to someone else, and proceeds to blow it out of proportions. Much like the all the ado about Pygmies in Uldum being "racist", while in reality is simply a completely innocent throwback to pulp adventure novels of early 20th century. Apparently, the "equal rights trolling" is the staple of this decade.
Mar 21st 2012 8:13AM Sorry to hijack the discussion, but does anybody know what the hell is happening to my servers (EU)? All I get is empty server selection window, and I don't know what is going on (presumably the offline maintenance). My client refuses to load the newsfeed, the Blizzy website and forum are offline as well, and I can't find any announcement about extended downtime today. It's like 1 PM already, more than three hours overdue compared to regular maintenances. My playtime is already limited enough, even without this sort of unprofessional jackassery. :-/
Mar 19th 2012 5:11AM 11? What sort of an uneven, misfitting, unpleasant number this is? Why not 12, at least?
Also, it doesn't do the thing for me. I did not even play Goblin or Worgen yet because I didn't have room on my "home" server, and now I get to choose whether I shall play Goblin or Worgen OR Pandaren... most probably resulting in me rolling the Forsaken rogue I always wanted, and waiting for ANOTHER expansion for MORE character slots to come.
Yea, leave it to Blizzard to come with a lackluster temporary solution nobody really asked for, instead of implementing the completely obvious one that would make everyone happy and solve the problem forever. :-P
Mar 4th 2012 5:51PM It's even better. Remember the concept art of Sha(dows) made for Mists of Pandaria?
"If you go to Pandaren... you will die." ;-)
Mar 4th 2012 12:38PM Pretty much the same idea appeared at EU forums about a month ago, sadly it was quickly forgotten, as devs don't bother to appear in EU forums, let alone read them:
So, yes, I like this idea a lot. Push it, promote it, make it happen. Void Storage, as it is now, is really just a gold dump that doesn't solve anything.
Mar 4th 2012 12:09PM I was lucky enough to collect full Bloodlust set for my Shaman back in 2009, before the idea of transmogrification even came to talks. Back then, some pieces cost me as much as twenty gold... but I simply had to have it.
Luckily, I stopped playing shortly after, so I never got rid of it. It's a wicked looking gear, although more plate than mail, and thinking about it, it doesn't even look like shaman stuff.
Right now I'm in the process of collecting Battleforge set for my huntress. Got everything but gloves and chest now, and I'll probably skip the chest altogether (too ugly to bother)...
Mar 4th 2012 8:38AM Odesyus' Landing. When I first played a Draenei, I kept leaving and re-entering the zone only to hear the music again and again.
I believe it is the same music as Honor Hold theme, but somehow, it sounded differently under the Azuremyst sky. :-)
Feb 2nd 2012 8:15AM First, if you wanted elegant armor, you shouldn´t roll a Zorai, all their armor sets look like a bunch of wicker furniture pieces.
Second, I think you really should look deep into harvesting, as it is very involving, sort of a minigame by itself. As you level, you will be able to pop several nodes at once, and to get much more materials from each. You can actually turn digging into a group experience (ask people in universe to tell you about careplanning and supreme digging).
Third, when you leave for mainland, pick your destination well. Desert and Jungle are easy and clean, Lakes are annoying to navigate, and Forest is chock full of hungry dogs forcing you on your toes constantly. Your racial crafting trainers are only in your wn homeland. You can move from one land to others, but you might need a guide and protection through tough zones (ask for someone to "trek" you, there is usually at least one large trek a week).
And finally... aggro dodging is a player skill in Ryzom, not something you get by pushing a button. Learn to use your compass, listen to the sounds, and when in doubt, RUN. Enjoy your stay. :)
Jan 12th 2012 6:38PM I suspect they're insidiously trying to force me to make another account and move my hordies there to make room for more allies on my current account (and then pay BOTH, of course). It's an evil business plan. *wink*
Jan 12th 2012 6:36PM @EverythingRuned: the infinite trial doesn't necessarily have to take more database space. People who would stick with free trial are likely to be the very same people who would create one free trial account after another (for instance, to check with WOW friends while playing another game). So, if anything, the infinite trial will result in a lesser number of unused accounts.
Speaking of which: I think they really should start actively culling the rarely played low-level characters on long-unused accounts. There's no point in keeping them around forever hoping that their player will come back (and subscribe). And if they DO come back eventually, Blizz could always offer them a heirloom piece, a mount, a bag of gold or some other way to compensate their "loss".
