Why is Blizzard still OK with gender inequality in World of Warcraft? {WoW}

Apr 3rd 2012 5:01PM I've been online since 1986. Way back then there ratio was about fifty men for every female. Most of the guys were sweet, if socially awkward. Sure, there were cases over the years where I got creeped out by someone coming on WAY too strong or not understanding the back off signals. I've had to stop playing a few MUDs because of creep behaviour. (For lack of a polite stronger term coming to mind.) Once I got into MMOs, the number of occurances dropped WAY down.. and I think.. some women get to be oversensitive. Hell, I know some females seem to get upset when they don't get attention, negative or positive.

Anyway - I feel fairly secure in saying I've seen both sides of the spectrum. My impression is the guy is supposed to be a bit of a drunken, womanizing lout. (I haven't played beta, I could be horribly wrong!) From what I've seen in the thread here and on the official forums.. its borderline. Either the humour needs to be played up, or the creepiness down. As is, it could swing either way and is far too open to interpretation.

However, the people saying "I don't see what's wrong" have as much entitlement to their opinion as the people saying "There's a problem here." Dismissing them, insulting them, deriding them only weakens *your* position. People change, grow and evolve through a widening of horizons and the most common method is through informed, open, dialogue. Don't shut down the dialogue before it happens and keep an open mind. That goes for both sides of any argument.

I, a female, do think its a bit mountain of molehill, but again, I haven't been in beta, so I can't say what my first hand reaction would be.

Drama Mamas: The love triangle strikes again {WoW}

Mar 20th 2012 5:19PM Allow me to be the voice of reason -- its so easy to tell yourself "But this is different than.." It's not.

Until he actually leaves his gf/fiance/wife/whatever .. they are together. You don't know what the degree of their together is.. you only have his version of reality.

The married guy I was seeing who was (supposedly) only living with his woman till they could sort out stuff with kids and home would bitch his wife did nothing but lie on the couch. What he didn't mention was his wife had had huge major surgery the week before!

Put your foot down. I care about you and because of that, I clear the field until you get your current situation sorted out. Go play on another server for a while, or switch sides, or just remove him from RealID and play alts. He'll probably be all beggy/want you back for a couple of weeks and then disappear.

Sad to say.
