World of Warcraft Mac client adds builtin movie capture {TUAW.com}

Jul 14th 2007 5:03AM I used the H.264 codec, it seems the clearest, and pretty compact. I haven't tried Motion-JPEG yet, but I did try Pixlet, and it came out looking fuzzy.

WoW 2.2 Mac client in-game video capture {WoW}

Jul 13th 2007 3:06PM Guys, let's not turn this into a flamewar. There's enough Mac vs. PC stuff out there already. I just wanted to show how the video turns out. It's on par with FRAPS, which is a great tool available for ALL games on Windows.

The track in the video is "Summer in the Studio" by Kinobe. This version comes off The Chillout Sessions 3 disc which I picked up while backpacking around Thailand in 2003.

WoW 2.2 Mac client in-game video capture {WoW}

Jul 13th 2007 1:44PM It's in the video, but I have a 20" iMac Core2Duo 2.16 GHz with 1.5 GB of RAM. I used to have a G5 iMac, but upgraded about a month ago.

It came from the Blog: Forums! {WoW}

Jun 11th 2007 4:39PM It's a free template, but it's awesome, isn't it? You can grab it from here: http://www.wowcr.net/

WoW Patch 2.1.0.6729 - shortest patchnotes ever {WoW}

May 30th 2007 10:00AM Thanks Ryan! I'm actually stuck at "Handshaking" on my Mac, and I was curious if it was going to be a PC or a Mac client fix.. Maybe it's both!

AddOn Spotlight: WoW UI Updater {WoW}

May 26th 2007 11:58AM From the author's website:

WUU .308 and up is removed from this page due to claims of there being a keylogger in them. I've scanned all the files, and not found anything - but still, be careful if an update does NOT verify its signature correctly. I'll also post the md5sums for each release in the future.

UPDATE 23:31: As far as I can tell, this is a FALSE POSITIVE from F-secure and Kaspersky (I've not found it with any other scanner) - see also this blog post

I have submitted the file to F-secure for validation, and will keep you updated

Update 2007-05-25: Neither Kaspersky nor F-Secure treat WUU as "infected" as of today's update

Update #2, 2007-05-25: WUU submitted to Grisoft/AVG for verification also. /sigh :(

Reader UI of the Week: Omegi {WoW}

May 1st 2007 10:13PM Chronnick, I think it's a pretty clean UI, and an example of what a lot of us run when playing WoW. It's a lot cleaner than the default UI, and has the buttons where Omegi wants em.

With the exception of DM over SWStats, it reminds me a lot of my UI, actually.

Are you willing to put up and send in your UI?

Breakfast Topic: When Shaman go OOM {WoW}

Mar 8th 2007 3:06PM Oh, I may have forgotten shadowpriests, and maybe hunters who have spirit bond, and I'm sure druids have some sort of magic BOOMKIN shoot/heal mojo going on. But other than that.. not so many people DPS'ing and healing at the exact same moment.

Breakfast Topic: When Shaman go OOM {WoW}

Mar 8th 2007 2:59PM @someone:

The only class that can DPS and heal at the same time that I know of is a Paladin, thanks to Judgement of Light.

If an Ele/Resto (like me, 38/0/23) Shaman in a 5-man (and let's talk 5-mans, as so much of TBC is that way) can DPS at the same level as a mage/rogue/hunter, and THEN also step back to heal just as well as a druid/paladin/slightly-braindead priest, I don't think that reduces his/her overall productiveness. In fact, I would say that increases the usefulness and utility of the shammy in the group.

It may lower his/her spot on the damagemeter or the healometer, but the shaman's ability to switch roles on a dime can save a group from a wipe, and lead to a faster, more successful run.

I have built myself for DPS. As a result of that, I have close to 600 spell damage. As a side-effect of that, I have close to 600 healing. See how they usually go together like that? LHW or Chain Heal with those kinds of bonuses at level 70 (blues and greens) can really make a difference.

As for CC, are you not using your Earth Elemental?? Last night in SH our tank died on the centurion/gladiator packs. Popped down the EE, kept him healed, and the group pulled through without a problem.

Need some AOE, drop your Fire Elem.

So rather than having "no idea what your shaman can do", I think I have a much better grasp on the full utility and ability of my horny blue space demon than you may have of yours.

Wyahld, Elementalist and proud of it.

Breakfast Topic: When Shaman go OOM {WoW}

Mar 8th 2007 9:25AM By posting this, I fully expect Bliz to announce a nerf to Shammies in future patches, but I need to address this OOM stuff, at least from an elementalist point of view.

I have a 70 Draenei Shaman, his name is Wyahld, you can look him up on the armory. 571 spell damage, and my spec is 38/0/23.

With this spec, I have 28.8% crit with my lightning bolts, every crit with lightning = free lightning. I also have the talents for an instant-cast lightning, and a free critical lightning, every 3 minutes each. The +crit talents from Elem/Resto do indeed stack, and I can happily run any instance now without dropping much below 3k mana.

Your mana efficiency here is directly based on the crit % chance of your favorite offensive spell. Lightning seems to be the obvious choice. Through itemization I should be able to get close to 40% crit, which means 40% of the time I'm not spending mana to cast, and in fact I am regenning mana at a healthy rate due to the mana regen talent and further itemization.

Enhancement shammies will melee back their mana (often from 0 to 2/3 of full in a single fight), Resto shammies seem to have something called Mana Tide which works well, and Elementalists need to understand how that aspect of shammy is designed.

Try my spec, enjoy your 3k lightning bolts every 3rd hit, see your mana pool stay healthy, even in lengthy boss fights, and enjoy your high standing on the damage meters.
