Jan 7th 2010 11:23AM Also, I have to point out that '09 is the year that all major animation studios (with exception of... let's see... Aardman, perhaps) had a film released in theaters. I don't think we'll ever see such alignment of stars and planets like this again.
If I have to pick one to represent '09, I'd pick Coraline. It really pushed the envelope in so many areas: the first stop-mo feature to be shot in 3D, the use of industrial Objet 3D printing, miniature knitting, etc, etc. It's pretty much a one-of-a-kind film, and I don't think we'll be seeing film made with such craft, ingenuity and effort in a very long time.
