New Amazon Kindle announced: $139 WiFi-only version and $189 3G model available August 27th in the US and UK {Engadget}

Jul 29th 2010 1:18PM @Matarsak Actually, they started with Sprint, then moved to AT&T for the current Kindle 2 international version (likely so they could have a GSM model that worked internationally)

Jul 29th 2010 1:14PM @Dannyp32 And I prefer reading on the kindle. No pages to hold, and no bookmarks to keep. Isn't it great to have choices? :)

AT&T makes sweeping changes to data plans, iPhone tethering coming at OS 4 launch {Engadget}

I do not defend AT&T's pricing change, but it could be benefiting the people who always use way less than 2gb / month (since they will be paying $5 less / month), but screwing the people who use more (the so-called 2% of users) by at LEAST an extra $5 per month.

Also, if 98% are using less than 2gb per month, why should they care about lowering the cap to 2gb? If 98% of users used less than 500MB you can be sure that's what the new cap would have been.

"What's the point of tethering an iPhone if you can't surf the web and get email. Do that a few times a week and weekends and you'll approach 2GB. "

He's talking about tethering, and I would think that laptops connected to that would definitely be running flash, etc.

I hope it gets to the point where application wrappers have a hard time justifying their existence. That means either the regular ol' native applications are doing a good enough job, or the specific apps that people need are officially ported over to the platform. Either way, it's a win for lots of people :)

Novatel NovaDrive cloud-based unlimited storage preview {Engadget}

Mar 29th 2010 6:53PM I'm giving CrashPlan a try right now, if it goes well I will be buying the 2 year family plan to use with all my PCs at home. $75 a year for unlimited on multiple PCs (with what looks to be good linux support!) seems like a good deal to me! (and it's even cheaper if you buy 3 years, but that's just too much of a commitment for me right now :P)
