Guest Post: The death of in-game interaction {WoW}

Aug 23rd 2010 1:30PM "Making crafting more interesting? Sure, it works, until you start adding in the critical fails. Could you imagine what would have happened if someone Crit Failed a Hand of Rag creation? and the sheer utter tedium of crafting such monsterous thigns would probably make you go insane."

One word: Aion.

You could fail crafting, burning away any mats used in the process. You could also fail gathering, losing the node and best of all, fail enchanting and actually lose some (perhaps all, I don't remember) of the enchant buffs that were on the item you were working on. I tried, along with my wife and a friend of ours who is *much* more hard core than we are. It was miserable.

One of the things that keeps people playing WoW is that Blizz keeps adding things to lower the amount of needless frustration you experience as you play. Is leveling to 1-80 now easier than 1-60 in vanilla? Unquestionably (I did it as a prot warrior because I was a total nub), yet granting a little more exp and lowering the amount needed to ding doesn't make players bad, nor does it cheapen the game. The essence of WoW's current design seems to be that everyone can kill all the internet dragons we have if they put in *some* effort, but you don't get bragging rights unless you put in *lots* of effort. When I write encounters/dungeons for my tabletop group I want them to get in there and enjoy them. I'm guessing Blizz feels the same way about it's dungeons as well.

tl;dr I believe OP wants to play the bastard love-child of EvE and Aion. I hope he finds what he wants, but if I'm right he needs to look elsewhere.

Officers' Quarters: It's a secret {WoW}

Aug 2nd 2010 1:56PM CSB time:

I had a GL who tried this once. Thankfully he was a dumbass, and would log off his main and immediately log on to his 'secret alt' to watch what happened in /g when "he was away."

He'd sit in /g while questing, rarely ever respond, even if asked directly. For example:

Me: "Hey , you're around the right level now, want a run through DM?"
*wait 5-6 minutes*
Me: "Heya , you need anything out there?"
*wait 5-6 minutes*
Me: /w "Everything ok, man?"
Him: /w Me: "busy"
Me: /w "No worries, I'm here if you need me."

He really did think he was being clever and seeing how we "really behaved" without him around to lord over us.

There are no personality/psychological tests required to get a Guild Charter or accept promotion to GL of an existing guild, and people who love to abuse power gravitate towards positions where they can do so.

tl;dr: Sometimes your GL will be a dick, sometimes not. /gquit fixes the worst of these instances.

Loyola University professor drives City of Heroes/Villains players crazy, all for sociology {Massively}

Jul 7th 2009 3:51PM It's not clear that he didn't trash talk other players (keeping his chatlogs would have been the scientifically responsible thing to do), in fact some people dispute that entirely here (c&p into browser):
