eBay Find of the Day: The original Chitty Chitty Bang Bang movie car {Autoblog Canada}

Apr 22nd 2011 3:35PM Interesting. I'm pretty sure I've still got the Dinky replica (with retractable wings!) that I was given when the film came out ('69? '70?).

Because I grew up with this car firmly embossed on my brain, I never really paid attention to it as a CAR, but it was actually a pretty cool design. It was steampunk LONG before there was steampunk...

New York 2011: 2012 Chrysler 300C Executive Series brings the swank, monocle not included {Autoblog Canada}

Apr 21st 2011 11:31AM Anyone who yearns for the Cadillacs and Lincolns of the 70s will feel right at home here; a definite retro feel.

I'm going to guess that at this level the wood trim in the interior is real, but it looks a LOT like the applique stuff you used to see...

Video: GigaOM talks NAT GAS Act with T. Boone Pickens {Autoblog Green}

Apr 10th 2011 11:59PM There's plenty of natural gas available to the North American market, in Alaska and Northern Canada. Pipeline projects are in the works to reach both regions...

Video: 1963 Chrysler Turbine whirs into Jay Leno's Garage {Autoblog}

Apr 8th 2011 1:32PM Agreed on Leno. He's done TONS for the automotive community. I love that he does a column for Popular Mechanics. Stuff like that (and like "Jay Leno's Garage") is clearly a labor of love for him; it's not like he needs the money.

He also knows his stuff. His segments are always well-researched and manage to be entertaining, to boot. Wouldn't it be cool just to get to hang around for a week?

BTW, thanks for the link to your blog. The brochure scans are cool!

Apr 8th 2011 1:10PM There's a good argument that this might be one of the most significant cars of the 20th century, certainly from an engineering standpoint.

The design was also awesome.

Honda Accord Crosstour Cabriolet coming to take on Nissan's topless Murano {Autoblog}

Apr 1st 2011 2:44PM Sorry to say, I think there's actually a market for this. Likely more useful than, say, the Solara convertible and better looking than the Milano.

I wouldn't touch a Crosstour with a 10 foot pole, but this? Hmmm...

Honda Accord Crosstour Cabriolet coming to take on Nissan's topless Murano {Autoblog}

Apr 1st 2011 2:40PM I agree, this is better-looking than the fixed-top Crosstour, and considerably better-looking than the Murano convertible (not that that's saying much; it's not a very high bar to raise in the first place).

If this really IS an April Fool's gag, it's one Honda's product planners might want to pay attention to.

eBay Find of the Day: 1967 Toyota 2000GT makes our hearts sing {Autoblog}

Apr 1st 2011 3:55AM My question would be, were the ones you saw right-hand or left-hand drive? I'm suspecting the lhd models are rarer, and theoretically more desirable in the US.

Mar 31st 2011 9:13PM Funny story about that "convertible" 2000GT. That bodystyle was never produced, but Sean Connery had trouble getting in and out of the coupe. I can't recall if the producers had a coupe modified or if it was hand-built as a drop-top (given ALL 2000GTs were essentially hand-built, I suspect the latter), but it was definitely a one-off.

Mar 31st 2011 9:10PM "You Only Live Twice" might be the most overlooked of the Bond films. Still love Nancy Sinatra's theme song...
