Pathfinder Online measures up player housing {Massively}

Mar 1st 2012 6:15PM @Pilgrim

Pathfinder, and D&D are awesome because as a party you cooperate. The sandbox and freedom in these RPG is in the heroic actions, choices and decisions that you can imagine.

It has nothing to do with some other jerks (who weren't in your campaign to begin with), coming along to your table and messing things up.

The Daily Grind: What games go overboard with effects? {Massively}

Oct 23rd 2011 9:03AM Actually outdoor raids in RIFT were pretty crazy at launch, since everybody and their dog is throwing something on the boss. On my PC at the time I had to return to the "stare at the floor / BWL strategy".

A graphics patch was put in later that allows you to limit the effects to just your own (and the bosses') abilities, which made it nicer.

Why Microsoft is 'the MMO graveyard' {Massively}

Sep 22nd 2011 6:30PM @Space Cobra

I offer a much simpler reason:

The guaranteed revenue stream from a console MMO is untested and they will need to change many rules for XBox LIVE in how it does updates, or paying $60 in addition to your MMO subscription.
If they change any of the rules for MMO, the FPS partners will be up in arms and wanting it too. Activision has already said that they feel they should get some of that XBox LIVE subscription money.

MS doesn't want to play in the "huge upfront investment" - "high risk of game failing" MOO market. They can't justify that to their shareholders.

Instead, it invests in tools for XBox, created XNA so even students/start-up developers can easily make games cross platform, brought XBox LIVE to mobile in terms of WindowsPhone as well as the suite of cloud-based XBox LIVE APIs. Next year I think we'll see XBox LIVE come to Windows 8.

Their strategy is the tried and trusted method (because it worked on the PC market). Make developers love your tools, then they will continue to roll out the best 3rd party games on your platform. They don't need to become Nintendo where all the great games are first-party.

Aug 24th 2011 11:37PM Just a note on the quest items. Since 1.4, quest items are going into the quest bag - which is hidden under the quest log (default key: L)

They still show up in the quick quest bar but I've noticed people looking for specific quest items like reputation items.

Choose My Adventure: RIFTastic! {Massively}

Just want to add that since 1.4 the additional souls can be bought easily off the trainers. I do miss the original mini-quests to collect all the different souls taking you to your first rifts, but also understands how it may have been confusing for new players.

I wear costume and dye over any gear I don't like though.

still doing my saga questline and to be honest I thought it's great, the parts mixing between solo, group, or raid is a bit constraining for people that don't raid though.

I think that's why this new saga was created - you need to have solo and 5-men group content but no more.

1.4's new crafting updates has me very happy. suddenly have an urgency to level a new apothecary

I'm still waiting for housing too, but not sure how they'd do this - perhaps via a sliver?
