Breakfast Topic: How and why did you leave your previous guild? {WoW}

Feb 9th 2012 2:21AM @Lylithia Hey! Yep, it was sad. On the plus side, when I mentioned eventually I gave in and joined another guild... I'm glad to hear we made an impression on you - you made an impression on me, too. The guild I eventually gave in and joined, was one IOOM. I've been with them since a couple weeks into Firelands.

@ Hwacha, do I know you? Or do you just mean from when we had that 15 minutes of fame thing? Yeah, it is a bit depressing - though I didn't know it at that time, that 15 minutes of fame thing was published the week of our last raid ever as a guild. >.>

Dev Watercooler: Ghostcrawler on class roles {WoW}

Feb 8th 2012 10:36PM I want to see #5, personally. If they brought back agility-tanking, I might just have to go back to my rogue. I want to dodge-tank. :(

Breakfast Topic: How and why did you leave your previous guild? {WoW}

Feb 8th 2012 10:35AM I joined WoW because some friends in college played on a server with other people also from the same college, I was graduating, and I thought it'd be a great way to continue to talk to them sometimes. That guild was -entirely- people from the college (or personal, real-life friends of people from said school). It was pretty much the definition of the best guild ever, and I had no desire to ever leave.

Unlike most of these horror stories, it died not with a bang but with a whimper - its very awesomeness was also its downfall. There had always been a slow trickle of people leaving, but there was always a slow trickle of personal friends of the remaining players coming in to replace them. When the Cataclysm doldrums hit, though, over half the guild got bored and left right away. Left with difficulties raiding due to number of active players, and unwilling to recruit more through more standard channels, they just stopped raiding every week. Then at all. Then everyone else got bored and left, too.

It took a few months for me to admit to myself that the guild was really dead, not just sleeping until Firelands, but eventually I gave in and joined another guild - that one's pretty neat too, but it's not T7S. Nothing else will ever be T7S. (Technically, I still have most of my alts there... though if I ever want to make any more, they'll have to go elsewhere, as there'd be nobody around to invite them.)

Breakfast Topic: What parts of gameplay do you consider a chore? {WoW}

Feb 4th 2012 10:33AM Forced daily grinds to unlock BoP crap that is required for optimal raiding... the firelands grind almost killed my desire to play WoW. (And it -did- make me promise myself that I'm taking a couple month vacation from it when Pandara comes out.) 5m dailies are a close second, even if I'm happy at that chance a while back so they aren't actually -dailies- anymore. Still boring. Which is too bad - why is raiding so much fun, but 5m dungeons are boring chores?

I've never really had to farm, though - mats for things you can usually just buy in the AH. Except in a couple cases while I was leveling jc, in which cases I just spammed trade chat until I found enough people who had the random gems I needed in their inventory.

Have reforging demands become too complex? {WoW}

Jan 31st 2012 9:26PM I have nothing against reforging. I'm sure this has already been said numerous times in the comments, as I'm not going to read all of them just to see, but I would say: the issue is entirely ratings that are essential up until some arbitrary number, and completely, totally worthless after that number. Drop the "you need -exactly- x hit" minigame, reforging suddenly becomes far less of a chore.

7 wishes for guilds in Mists of Pandaria {WoW}

Jan 24th 2012 12:52AM As someone currently on phase 3 of the legendary staff... I am wholeheartedly in favour of your first suggestion. I'm looking forward to being able to show off the legendary, both for dps and because it looks awesome... but it's kind of lame that the guild can't make any progress on the legendary achievement unless I'm there, and extra-lame that I could make twice the progress finding a 25m pug (assuming I could find one that was halfway competent, which is, granted, probably not as easy as it sounds) as opposed to doing FL with my guild.

Though, speaking as someone who also had to leave my first guild due to its complete inactivity... it *would* be sort of sad knowing that, if I ever had to do that again, and I had a legendary, the legendary would hang out in the gbank, despite nobody ever even looking in it.

Breakfast Topic: Has the Raid Finder changed the way you raid? {WoW}

Jan 18th 2012 10:32AM Not really. LFR is a boring chore that I have to do to get gear, and is not actually raiding. All it's changed, I suppose, is that I now have more of a basic understanding of all the boss fights (minus a couple important mechanics for each fight) when going in - which, our guild's still only 5/8 in DS, so that's not nothing. And of course, it's changed the way I do heroics... i.e. I used to have to do them, and they were even more boring and grindier than lfr. Now I don't have to do them anymore, since all I needed from them was vp, and you get enough vp just doing lfr, normal DS, and BH.

And I disagree completely that it removes the magic. For me, the magic isn't "I got to watch the animation that the final boss died", it's "I got to defeat this difficult encounter". LFR doesn't count for that, so I'll still get the exact same feeling of accomplishment when we eventually manage to clear Deathwing on normal that I would've gotten if I hadn't been farming it every week on lfr.

Breakfast Topic: Thank everything for transmogrification {WoW}

Jan 15th 2012 12:00PM I didn't think I'd give one whit about transmog, when it came out. I honestly didn't figure I'd use it at all. Then I heard there was a hat that just made your head look like it was on fire, which went perfectly with the current-tier shoulders I was wearing that made my shoulders look like they were on fire, and now I'm extremely happy for transmog. Found a firey-looking cape to go with it (though, sadly, not actually on fire), and an actual torch for an off-hand, and my fire mage is now complete. Well, unless I discover I missed any other flaming items (I'd -love- to have hands that were on fire, but I don't know of any). Of course, to complete the set, I have a firefly pet and the title 'flame warden'.

Only sad part was then I got the second piece of the eventually-legendary staff, and now I can't use the torch anymore, or any of the various swords I've picked up cause they looked cool. That bugs me a little about their implementation, but I'll survive.

Breakfast Topic: What's your naming methodology? {WoW}

Jan 9th 2012 9:38PM Hey! Welcome to the club! That's where my name (neminem) came from, too - originally I would name myself "nobody", rather like your "nothing" (and I often named my pets "nothing", in games with pets). That name was often taken when dealing with the internet, where I would have to compete with everyone else on the planet for it, though, so when I discovered the accusative form of the Latin word for "nobody" bore a strange similarity to the name of a just-then-hitting-bigtime rapper, I started using that instead. But I still often go for the original in single-player games. I have a great list of quotes from FF7, including:

"I thought nobody would show up to save you."
"Nobody. Nobody's alive!"
"I never lived up to being nobody. Tifa, maybe someday you'll meet the real nobody."
"Don't tell us to wait for nobody to get better."
"Hey look, nobody's coming!"
