Apr 17th 2008 4:05PM If you have to pay a third party for access, I hardly call it an 'open' beta.
I disagree with these "exclusive access" things that FunCom has been doing. It does nothing but further promote the idea that the game truly isn't ready for prime-time, since they're resorting to contracts and making money off of the business that GameSpot and GameSpy/IGN are making from the publicity. Further limiting the number of people and even the amount of content they'll have access to is even more discouraging, since this suggests that they're either not totally done with the content they're restricting, or they're so confident that the content and game is ready that they would rather save it for live and play russian roulette with their chances.
At this point, I predict that they game may launch 10x better than AO did, and might even give FunCom enough momentum and potential to get people back to playing AO (which is still working and actually playing like a real sci-fi MMO), but they won't be able to compete with the hardcore players that will level faster than they can finish cleaning up the mid-to-high level content in order to retain them for a long period of time.
And no, I'm not mad that I'm not in beta...I could honestly care less, as I'm more inclined to go with Warhammer right now than AoC. I'm just trying to be realistic. :-\
Jan 10th 2008 9:37PM WTF...why do they even have an audio podcast when there's a written transcription of the podcast available? That just makes the whole thing look fake and scripted. They could have easily just thrown the transcripted info on to the wow.com page and been done with it!
Dec 21st 2007 5:53PM Guess I spoke too soon...as of this post, the SL-free feed link no worky. I cry w/sad.
Dec 21st 2007 5:51PM THANK YOU! I love this new site, but the Second Life spam is just too much. Make it it's own blog already a la WoWInsider.
Dec 19th 2007 11:17PM And after only 10 minutes of play, I can give a quick head-ups: If you've ever played Anarchy Online before the Shadowlands expansion, this game controls/interfaces the same exact way.
*runs off to uninstall before the bad memories return*
Jul 12th 2007 10:59PM Er, nice changes but since this is a major patch revision (2.2 and not 2.1.4) where's the new content?
Jan 13th 2007 1:35AM Cute, but I'm confused...does the Darkmoon stuff make you more drunk than anything else? Or just more drunk faster? 'Cause it's my understanding that all drinks have the same alcoholic effect in distorting the world and making enemies appear lower in levels, with the distortion and how many levels weaker being based on how drunk you are.
