Nov 14th 2007 6:26AM @24: That's how I understand it too, so manna isn't confusing to me at all (being inclined to pronounce it mah-nuh)
For the record, and in an effort to diffuse the kind of debates that can kill threads like this, both the British and American pronounciation are as right/wrong as each other. They're approximations of a polynesian word, I think, which would probably be pronounced more like 'mah-nah' but with short vowel sounds.
Oct 10th 2007 2:30AM How about Blizzard take all your shapeshift forms *away* and leave you plucking mistletoe and dancing round stone circles, you bunch of ingrates! :P
No, seriously though, the customisable shapeshift forms is a fantastic idea.
Oct 5th 2007 8:39AM I think I must have an unhealthy fascination with elves, because my favourites include Darnassus and Silvermoon - mainly for atmospheric reasons, but also for the lack of lag.
It also includes the Allerian Stronghold and will doubtless extend to Dalaran, because I love finding High Elves in places ever since I came across the lodge in the Hinterlands.
Undercity is another good one, for the same reasons as 3. The whole Nightmare Before Christmas thing is awesome. (One thing though, those useless signs near the auction house where both opposing signs point to the same quarter seem a bit redundant as they are.)
Least favourites? The lag nodes at SW trade, IF bank, Org bank and Upper Shattrath.
Oct 1st 2007 3:26AM Clearly there are many players who feel that the whole *point* of WoW is to play a level 70 character, while for others (myself very much included) the point is to level.
It's much like the differences in attitude between the questers, RPers, PvPers and raiders.
Part of the success of the game is that it caters for all these types of player.
What gets me down is when certain types of player (and why is it so often the raiders, PvPers and level-cap-or-bust players?) have to **** on the way the rest of us choose to play the game.
Sep 28th 2007 8:49AM My guild did this ages ago!
(Darkmoon Faire, EU)
We rolled gnomes, ran to Goldshire, raided Hogger, then finally ganked some poor orc right across Westfall and into the sea. Good times.
The video is still in the making.
Sep 25th 2007 8:16AM @2, the Boy Who Cried Wolf plus The Minority Report. ;)
Excellent machinima for all that. Great work.
Sep 25th 2007 4:08AM I like RP.
I chose an RP server for a reason. I pick races and classes (and, yes, even talent trees) that I feel I can relate to. I choose names that are actually names rather than net handles or "Imahuntergrr".
It does grate when you're at an RP event (seen a couple of in-game weddings on my server for example) and a couple of people set up a duel flag right in the middle and run round screaming "OMG n00bz!"
Having said that, my approach to RP in practice is much the same as #5. If I sign off in guild chat with "Elune light your path", you can be sure it's tongue-in-cheek.
Basically my belief is this: regardless how you behave yourself, if you can't respect other people's RPing then get the hell off the RP servers.
Sep 24th 2007 7:55AM I have a strong objection to the belf mounts, both the ground mounts and flying taxi.
What were the high elves riding before they joined the horde? Surely not bats and Rod Hull's emu.
Something a little more fitting would have been nice. I dunno, unicorns and pegasii? Anything!
And while I can see the Draenei using hippogryphs in Azeroth, does it really make that much sense that they use them in the Outlands too?
Since the belf and Draenei starter zones are not connected by flightpaths to the rest of Azeroth anyway, wouldn't this have been a good opportunity to show some extra creativity?
Sep 18th 2007 6:52AM Sometimes I catch myself glancing to my left and wondering where my pet has gone. Usually just after logging out.
One day there will be clinics for stuff like this.
As for having an RL UI: having all my daily routine tasks tied to numbers on a keyboard and performed instantly at the press of a button? Yes please.
Sep 17th 2007 5:31AM I play Alliance too, possibly for the exact reasons given above. I would agree with post 1, however, and say that I like the way the boundaries of good and evil are blurred in the game (with the possible exception of the two new races, and a bit of sadism on the part of the Forsaken).
Horde aren't evil, they're just misunderstood.
That said, I've never levelled an 'ugly race' character past 20.
