Know Your Lore: Rise of the Zandalari {WoW}

Apr 3rd 2011 8:24PM @RetPallyJil

This isn't a simple story of "good guys going bad". If you've read any of the previous articles on "Zul" you'll gather that someone is pulling the strings here that isn't yet been been seen in the story and probably won't until the next patch. Most likely its Hakkar in some manifestation.

Heirloom items bound to Battle.net accounts on patch 4.1 PTR {WoW}

Mar 30th 2011 11:09PM Transfers between accounts is fine but that really services a small percentage of the player population.

This will be epic if it is a true ability to transfer to different servers within the same account.

Know Your Lore: King Genn Greymane of Gilneas {WoW}

Jan 19th 2011 3:00PM @ Rossi:

I think you’re being a bit too lenient on him. The correlation that you make with the Second World War is a good one but I have a different view of that. The corollary between the Atlantic/Pacific oceans and Greymane’s Wall should be evident. America sent over a small force at the end of WWI (comparable to Greymane’s token force during the 2nd war) and Greymane's Wall was used as his justification for not helping anyone out (even though he had Worgen on both sides of the wall and Scourge on the outside which he mistakenly thought would keep them out of Gilneas). The Gilnean civilians that were killed/infected by his inaction are akin to the deaths of Americans on merchant ship sunk by U-boats and the sinking of the USS Reuben James in October 1941, all before Pearl Harbor. I don’t want to go any further into American historical data to make the point but it's pretty obvious that his unwillingness to ask for or provide help not only doomed others to death but his own people as well.

Blizzard does like redemption stories but they fall short of having Greymane repent but do acknowledge this through his son.

This is exactly why I stopped short of labeling his actions or his alignment evil. As you stated correctly previously, he's no Sylvanas but in the same context he's no Thrall either. Greymane would damn the world (and did so) as long as his little slice of heaven was safe and secure. No direct malice was meant to his weaker brethren but no empathy was shown either. All of which combined makes his personality/alignment/whatever quite selfish. All and all he may have been a decent and complex person but that doesn’t excuse his actions.

nothing. - Edmund Burke

While I don't consider Greymane to be a "good man" (he falls squarely into selfish if WoW used alignments), the quote is still apropos.

You are right that the Blood Elves joined the Horde and remain in the Horde at this time for convenience sake. Remember that the High Elves had only joined the Alliance because of the Troll Wars and joined the Horde after the Alliance left them to die (whether or not they could have helped was immaterial to the Elves) at the hands of the Scourge.

For them to play peace maker is an interesting twist for a race that didn't give a fig about most others before the Naaru helped them re-kindle The Sunwell.

The vast majority of the people (at least in N.A.) who play MMO's have access to a broadband connection of one form or another. Your 56k users are generally outside of an urban setting, lower end of the economic scale or a senior citizen.

And as I stated before the bonuses from the CE can easily be given with a digital download and would save Blizzard money on packaging (not that they need the extra cash or anything). Nothing, save the worthless mousepad, is difficult to replicate in a digital fashion.

The art book has to be digitized before it goes to the printers, so no the soundtrack isn't the only thing that could be downloaded. Space and availability aren't issues either. We ar living in an age where the slowest home connections are DSL, e-readers of every shape and model are replacing books and a terabyte external hard drive can be had for less than $100.00.

The bloody mousepad is the least attractive part of the CE anyhow.

It's the 21st century. All of this is easily doable.

Nov 29th 2010 9:58PM The only Brick and Mortar shop that will see my business will be Fry's and that's simply for the pre-launch CE.

If I could digitally download the CE, I wouldn't have to leave my task chair.
