Breakfast Topic: What are your plans for the Fire Festival? {WoW}

Jun 21st 2010 8:53AM My mage dinged 80 last night and got the cloak tonight, which was a nice bonus. The LFD tool for the boss only had a 2 minute queue, even for a DPS, so it made farming the boss incredibly easy even without a guild group.

For the rest of the holiday I'll run the instance once a day to see if I can get the staff or the pet. I'll probably skip the meta-achievement since torch juggling is not one of my strong points.

Breakfast Topic: When your alt becomes your main {WoW}

Jun 19th 2010 10:48AM I started as a Druid – played Feral, Balance and then once I hit 70 started raiding as Resto in TBC. I had rolled a Draenei Priest on the first day that WotLK hit, and she languished at 20-something until I decided I'd had enough of HoT-based healing. So I took my Priest to 70 and played her as Holy from TK through BT, but when WotLK hit I switched to Disc. I cleared everything up to Sarth 3D on her, before realising I was getting bored of healing and the game in general.

So I switched back to my Druid but this time as a tank. I offtanked Sarth 3D before realising that the game just didn't hold the same interest for me and quit for about a year. I tried coming back, both on my Priest and my Druid (as Balance and Resto) but the game still wasn't fun. And then I decided to play around with my mage who had been languishing at 70 since the beginning of WotLK.

She's 79 now, with just half a level to go until 80. I switched her from Draenei to Gnome (*hated* the hooves & tail & that horrid Russian accent) and in the whole process I've rediscovered my love of the game. I'm hoping to start raiding with her in the next couple of weeks and she'll be the first to get to 85 in Cata, but my Druid and Priest won't be far behind.

A translated look at Final Fantasy XIV's Guildleve system {Massively}

Jun 16th 2010 4:42AM I'm so unsure about this game. Part of what I enjoy about MMOs is the exploration and discovery: finding that out of the way questgiver, unravelling an interesting piece of lore through an unfolding storyline where you visit different people and places. How much of that will be in the game if you spend most of the time picking up guildleves and zapping yourself out to locations and back via Aetherytes? It sounds like it would get boring quickly. I'm hoping that they'll still have missions and quests like they do in FFXI, but without the need to do most everything in a large group.

The Daily Grind: Warhammer Online's billing woes {Massively}

Apr 13th 2010 11:57PM I just checked my statement and the 10 extra charges Mythic billed me for were reversed today. In fact, they refunded about AUD$1.10 extra per charge (which was about AUD$16, for a one month subscription) -- not sure if that was due to changes in exchange rates or what.

I'm still going to quit, though. The problem really just pointed out to me that I'm not playing or enjoying the game enough to warrant one $16 charge per month, let alone 11.

Shifting Perspectives: Drops for Druids in Zul'Aman {WoW}

Oct 17th 2007 12:24AM While Balance Druids will get a lot of itemisation love in 2.3, it's not coming from Zul'Aman in terms of drops. Every one of the Balance items listed above is a caster item that can be used by other caster classes (Mages, Warlocks and/or Shadow Priests), and we'll be rolling against them just like we did in Karazhan (well, I didn't because I went through Karazhan mostly as a Resto Druid).

Where Balance Druids did see the love is in the new Heroic Badge rewards, where there's leather with +spell damage for every slot except the legs. To buy all seven armor items will cost around 425 badges.

My current gear is a mix of crafted items, PvP gear and Kara drops that none of the casters wanted. The new Heroic rewards are great for someone like me. While some may argue over whether the new items are really all that, I for one am happy that I'll have choices and won't be forced to wear cloth because there's nothing else.

Leveling improvements for Patch 2.3 {WoW}

Oct 8th 2007 6:26PM My warlock alt hit level 27 yesterday and that is where she'll stay until 2.3 (though I might take her to 29 to play in the BGs while I wait for the patch). I was happy it was going to take less time to level her to 60 but new quests? Those are worth waiting for. 2.3 can't come soon enough.

Shifting Perspectives: Awesome Moonkin gear - The Finale {WoW}

Sep 19th 2007 12:14AM The Crystal Orb of Enlightenment is an offhand available once you've hit Exalted with Ogri'la (cost: 4 Apexis Crystals and 100 Apexis Shards). It has +18 sta, +16 int and +33 dmg.

Also, there's now the Veteran's Pendant of Dominance as opposed to the Pendant of Dominance. It has slightly more int and resilience.

I went for the the Veteran's Pendant of Conquest, which has slightly lower stats/damage but also gives +18 crit.

Are you a respec addict? {WoW}

Aug 27th 2007 5:50PM I play a Druid and I respec every few days. I'm Resto for raids and then I respec to Balance for grinding and five-mans, as one of my friends recently switched to Resto and two trees in a five-man don't really work. I'll also respec to 8/11/42 for PvP if we're focusing on that.

I feel like I'm having a bit of an identity crisis, but I must admit my alts have gone untouched since I started doing this and I'm enjoying playing my main so much more. The gold from doing the daily quests is more than enough to fund the respecs and then some.

Ten commandments of being in a group {WoW}

Aug 1st 2007 11:08PM From 1: "Learn to cook, people"

And for the love of God, please level your First Aid and bring bandages to the raid. There will be times when your healer will either be OOM or otherwise preoccupied keeping the tank up, and you will need to take care of yourself. Typing "HEEL PLZ" in chat or demanding a heal over Vent is the surest way to move to the top of my Do Not Heal list.

Yet another massive social problem somehow blamed on WoW {WoW}

Jul 31st 2007 9:58PM "using weapons that are identical to real-world armaments" ... um, so I should be worried about terrorists trying to blow up the Sydney Opera House with a Cannonball Runner? Or perhaps they'll attack Parliament House armed with The Bringer of Death.

Who owns The Australian? Rupert Murdoch (okay, so it's really News Limited, but they're pretty much one and the same). Need I say anything more?
