Most of the hate was because it was going to change the traditional battle style to something more action-based. Look at this original footage:

Red Dead Redemption joins Games on Demand (for $60!) {Joystiq}
Dec 21st 2010 9:14PM @Styli
RDR is still $60 for a new copy at Gamestop. http://www.gamestop.com/Catalog/ProductDetails.aspx?product_id=74710
Used prices don't really count - especially since publishers hate the used game market.
That's why even the cheaper Games On Demand games are still $20-30. That's their current retail price.
Red Dead Redemption joins Games on Demand (for $60!) {Joystiq}
Dec 21st 2010 8:39PM ATTENTION EVERYONE:
IT'S PRICED LIKE THIS TO NOT PISS OFF RETAILERS. Seriously, most game sales are still through brick and mortar stores like Gamestop. Undercut them on retail price and they'll stop ordering new copies of your games. Then you're screwed.
Gamestop and other retailers have explicitly threatened this. They may even have contracts saying you can't undercut MSRP.
So there you go guys, mystery solved.
Xbox Live Indie Games moved to 'Specialty Shops' on new Dashboard, devs not happy {Joystiq}
Nov 3rd 2010 9:32AM @wcarnation PS3 doesn't have Indie games. They have the equivalent of Xbox Live Arcade games, but nothing where anybody can release a game at any time and not go through a long and expensive release process.

How Star Wars: The Old Republic tackles the grind {Joystiq}
Oct 8th 2010 9:06AM Some people will never be happy.
"Killing enemies over and over is a grind!"
DEV: "Okay, here's a bunch of quests instead."
"Quests are grindy!"
DEV: "Well then here are a bunch of well crafted stories to play through."
"Ugh, now we have to grind through stories?"
DEV: "WTF do you want?!"
"...you suck, I quit!" (logs off and proceeds to GRIND through some TV and GRIND through some web sites, and maybe GRIND through a book later.)
Planescape: Torment has arrived on GoG {Joystiq}
Sep 28th 2010 12:44PM @Punkrawk Bbob
I don't think it's better than BG2+expansion overall, but I'd say it has a better story, especially if you have a high Int+Wis character.
The only drawback is that the combat feels a bit clunkier than BG2, but that's not the focus of the game. The setting is also a lot weirder, so it's harder for people to get into.
