Blood Pact: Leveling a warlock from 60 to 85 {WoW}

May 23rd 2011 3:39PM Major glyph ... Shadowflame ... 70% movement speed reduction. Don't level a warlock without it!

Blood Pact: Witching around with demonology {WoW}

Apr 21st 2011 11:42AM The theoretical difference between the Felguard's single target DPS and the Succubus' single target DPS is mostly irrelevant, around 200 DPS. Thats it.

When the simcraft numbers are showing DPS numbers of 25-30,000 for all warlock specs, 200 DPS if irrelevant. At 25k DPS thats about 0.8%. At 15k DPS it's 1.3%.

Lag, player error, fight mechanics, movement or a missing buff will all make that 200 DPS insignificant. It isn't worth the effort to swap demons and glyphs.

As for HoG ... the crit buff to your demon is a nice bonus, but not THE reason to cast it. DPS is the reason to cast it. With Aura of Foreboding, it is a useful root/stun on adds or trash. Don't waste time fretting about the boss being in the purple swirly. Cast it on cooldown unless you know you will have adds incoming (Magmaw, Maloriak, etc) Delaying a cast of HoG to get the boss in the swirly more will more than erase a 200 DPS theoretical increase.

Successful Demonology DPS is all about cooldown management. You have Demon Soul, Meta, Felstorm, a fairly useless soul shard to burn, possibly a trinket and your groups haste buff. Finding the right time to pop all those cooldowns will have FAR MORE IMPACT on your DPS than worrying about getting the boss in HoG's swirly, or which demon (and its glyph) is the best theoretical DPS increase.

As far as the Succy/Imp vs Felguard discussion ... Felguard, always. Between his, soon to be his or her :) AoE goodness, the Felguard also gives you Axe Toss and a 10% healing debuff. Those don't count in theoretical DPS discussions, but are worth far more than 200 DPS to me. Sheep broke? Axe Toss. Add agro'd healer when it appeared? Axe Toss. Four seconds can be a loooong time.

There is more to playing this game than theoretical DPS.

As for the change to Mana Feed, Destruction has Soul Leech which restores healt & mana on every Chaos Bolt or Soul Fire and grants replenishment. Mana Feed is available to Destruction if you care to get it, so the change is to benefit Demo and Aff who don't have access to the mana return from Soul Leech.

Drama Mamas: Sexist jerk or personality conflict? {WoW}

Arcane Brilliance: The constantly evolving, completely stagnant frost tree {WoW}

Mar 28th 2011 12:08PM Tired, so tired, of PvE nerfs for PvP purposes.

The time has come for separate PvE and PvP builds.
Two talent trees, one PvE, one PvP. As soon as you flag for PvP, you are immediately switched to your PvP spec (with your current health/mana). As soon as you enter a PvP zone (Tol Borad, Wintergrasp), you are immediately switched to your PvP spec.

When you leave a PvP zone, you are automatically switched back (assuming you were auto switched).

Sadly, I don't think Blizz will ever do this as it will mean admitting they were wrong on this subject.

Breakfast Topic: How has reading WoW Insider changed your game experience? {WoW}

Mar 1st 2011 10:56AM Great topic today! What has reading WoWInsider done for my game ... let me explain. No, there is too much, let me sum up! I didn't know how to play until I started reading WoWInsider. It is not all WoWInsider, but it stated me on learning the game.

After almost a year of playing a very, very little bit of raiding MC, ZG and AQ20, I really had no idea what I was doing. I had to be away from the game for a few months for work, so I started reading up on the game. I found WoWInsider and it started my education. When I came back to the game, I was a much better player. I'm still learning many years later, and still reading.

Thanks.

Blood Pact: The failure of Soul Shards {WoW}

Feb 28th 2011 3:07PM Since they removed Improved Soul Fire from the rotation for all but Destro, I find Soul Shards and Soulburn to be fairly meh. Ok, I can do one instant Soul Fire every 45 seconds, or one instant demon resummon every 45 seconds should I need it (there have been times). But there really isn't a significant beneift to the instant Soul Fire. When I had ISF, it was a big DPS increase. Now, not so much.

The utility of Soulburn is great. I have used the instant summon demon many times. I've saved my but with the Soulburn healthstone. But GC said "Blowing a shard should be a big deal -- an exciting moment. We want to make shards fun and remove the hassle, but we want to make them a core part of the warlock experience and not a marginalized feature." (Blizzcon 09? - http://www.wowhead.com/blog=105918/warlock-q-a-with-ghostcrawler). Total fail. Its a marginalized feature. Its fairly boring. Its not exciting at all.

Want to make it interesting?
Make a Soulburn Soulfire instant, but also give the 15% ISF haste buff. Now thats a big deal!
Make Soulburn Shadowflame reduce the cooldown on Shadowflame to 3 seconds for 10 seconds.
Make Soulburn Drain Life tick faster, but be twice as long.
Make Soulburn Drain Soul allow you to regen Soulshards in combat without killing something.
