Nov 29th 2011 4:12PM I did some PvP as a Sniper- once I got the level 20 ability Entrench I really enjoyed it. Considering how much I disliked it in WoW (detest would be the most accurate word), I was very surprised at how much I enjoyed it.
A big part of it is that you auto-track your targets, so it's not all about running behind people and trying to constantly swing about to see people. That, combined with the fact that you aren't dead in 3 seconds flat, made it less of an ordeal to play, and after a match on Alderaan where I held a turret mostly by myself for an entire game without dying I was hooked.
The rewards system is also very good, as it rewards damage, healing, tanking and capturing/defending objectives, so strategic play is rewarded instead of just getting credit based on kills.

Sep 25th 2011 4:44PM @amestel The issue was that if you do anything but directly follow the tutorial the game doesn't realise it, so if you build something the tutorial will ask you to build it again, which you may not have the resources or space for. It would be okay if it was a short tutorial, but it goes on for ages and after a while you want to just try stuff out for yourself.

Free for All: Another attempt at free-to-play vs. freemium {Massively}

Sep 7th 2011 3:19PM I was wary of "Free-to-play" games, but on the recommendation of a friend I tried out Lord of the Rings. Whilst I found things like bag size and auction limits annoying, I felt they were a fair trade off, and if I continued to play the game I would have certainly looked into unlocking them.

Unfortunately I hit the "content wall", where you get to a point that you have to pay to unlock quests. That was exactly what I was wary about in the first place- it says it's free, but you have to pay to actually do anything. If even one zone per tier was free I would have stayed on, and likely would have spent money in the shop, but I felt like I had been lied to. That removed any willingness to spend any money on the game, and thus my experience was brought to a close.

Feb 22nd 2011 5:12PM I don't have a problem with it being KOTOR that you can play with your friends, and I imagine it'll likely be a fair bit more than that anyway.

Is standing around in SW what makes WoW an MMO? Is it really significantly different than being on your own ship? Is the ship particularly different than player housing in RoM or FFXI?

RIFT developers explore the dynamics of PvP! {Massively}

Jan 21st 2011 6:48PM I'm not really seeing where the "revolutionary" part of their PvP is. Ganking a raid doing a World Boss and a different version of Alterac Valley aren't revolutionary.

I'm not knocking the quality of the game, but I keep seeing claims about RIFT shaking things up, and then seeing videos of a different looking WoW/WAR/Aion.
