Immortal is the toughest raiding achievement in the game {WoW}

Mar 12th 2009 4:50PM It takes you six hours for a full clear without being gimped by achievement-attempt composition?

I'm sorry. I'm so sorry.

The Ten Commandments for DPS {WoW}

Feb 11th 2009 4:39PM Yes, it does, and for the most part, you'll never have to seek it out.

However, there are some idiots who can't bear to replace an epic with anything less than an epic, and religiously follow certain gear guides and sites (MaxDPS.com being a major offender) who look only at how gear is ranked according to someone, somewhere's stat-weighting system. These people can come to the conclusion that they'd rather have, say, 8 AP and 0.3% crit more from an old BC epic, than 50 stamina on an 80 blue, all other things being equal. That's the kind of thing I'm talking about.

The Ten Commandments for DPS {WoW}

Feb 11th 2009 4:22PM "III. Do not overtax your healers by taking undue raid damage."

I'd add to that, don't overtax your healers by completely ignoring stamina for raw DPS stats only, as some gear guides suggest; sooner or later you're going to be the guy at the bottom of the charts because your 12k health pool just isn't sufficient to survive the first burst of raid damage.

Arcane Brilliance: Gearing your Mage up for Naxx {WoW}

Jan 10th 2009 5:29PM Hello troll. It must be nice to have to tie your self-esteem to whether or not a class you don't play is nerfed.

Arcane Brilliance: Gearing your Mage up for Naxx {WoW}

Jan 10th 2009 5:26PM Deathchill Cloak is BoE. All jewelcrafting trinkets are BoP. Any mage wearing Spellweave pieces should be ashamed of themselves.

Try harder, please.

The Queue: Proto-drakes, Brilliant Glass, and more {WoW}

Dec 2nd 2008 11:09AM More significantly, re: green gems, they're now being removed from the economy by the jewelcrafting dailies. That mechanic being present from the start, will prevent the kind of long-term stocking up that provoked the need for Brilliant Glass.

Officers' Quarters: Hired muscle {WoW}

Oct 27th 2008 2:40PM Check them out every bit as thoroughly as the guy in T4. "Burned some bridges" is sometimes not the half of it.

I'm on a lower-population server, where there's only been 2-3 serious guilds going beyond Mags and Gruul at any one time, for most of BC. Mine is one of those. Once, while we were at the end of Hyjal/mid-BT, we got an application from a transfer fairly decked out in full T6, Illidan staff and trinket, etc.

A little asking around on his previous server found he was a disliked and disruptive guild-hopper. Realm forum shenanigans after he was turned down further revealed that he was also a serial guild bank ninja who'd been transferring, ingratiating himself with high-end guilds, and stealing as much as he could to leave again on every transfer cooldown.

The bottom line, is to ask for references. If they can't give you a little "employment history," so to speak, that's a huge red flag, no matter how well-geared they are.

The Creamy GUI Center: BlizzCon UI wrap up commentary and analysis {WoW}

Oct 24th 2008 8:07PM There will certainly be an addon of some kind that replicates the alpha look, without making the default UI confusing for people who aren't you.

You know, exactly like the point of the panel.

See how that works?

Ask a Beta Tester: Murlocs, mounts, and minimaps {WoW}

Sep 17th 2008 12:50PM Learn about itemlevels, Faerondil. Naxx-10 and Naxx-25 are 13 ilevels apart - 200 and 213 - which is exactly one tier's worth of itembudget.

Think about it this way: Kara drops started at ilevel 115, not counting the animal bosses. SSC/TK started at ilevel 128. BT/Hyjal started at 141. Sunwell started at 154 (mostly). Similarly, T4 = ilevel 120, T5 = ilevel 133, T6 = ilevel 146.

The difference between Naxx-10 and Naxx-25 drops will be as much as the difference between Kara and SSC gear, or SSC and BT gear, on average, not counting end-boss ilevel outliers.

Emulating Taurens IRL: Living with a minimum impact on the environment {WoW}

Oct 15th 2007 1:14PM Keep the politics - and make no mistake, this is political - out of WoW, please.
